What year truck, and no it isnt I hate to burst your bubble. My 07 2500 HD, 6.0L with 4.10's is rated for 9,900... Im looking at the book right now.

You might be looking at gcvw, which is both vehicles together, so if your truck weighs 5700 lbs, you can tow 4300... there is no way its rated at 15,000+ gcvw.

Either way, it can be done. And for that short distance... Just make sure you've got a good hitch. THe poor little truck will say whether or not it can handle the load once you get it hooked up, but hitches usually tell their story going down the road and failing. They make "toads", or at least I think that's what they're called. They support the load of the tongue for you as you pull them. I got to thinking about it, and you could prob go to racingjunk and pick up a used dressed out trailor for the price of a new unfinished one.
Good luck to you on whatever you do!

I think you mean a weight distribution hitch? I picked one up with my trailer, with the torsion bars

side note should be that i'm trying to avoid buying a portable air conditioner, when I have an almost brand new, huge window ac unit....and I don't want to cut a giant hole in the side of my trailer!

You could, get a standing unit, and just have a dryer vent for the heat put in the side of the trailer. Then just have to drain the water from time to time from the bottom, or put the hose on it and rout that thru the floor and never worry about that.

I have one of the standing units in my garage, we're just putting a dryer type duct in the wall to vent the heat and I'm putting a hose off it and just running it under teh garage door, it's 9700 BTU of cooling, enough for my 24x24 garage... your trailer would be a rolling meat locker with one like that in it. but, it will take up floor space..... maybe an issue, maybe not.

standing unit, as in the standup portable ones? Or a regular window one?

I was thinking of venting off the heat, to a hole in the floor, along with the water. Will have to do it either way with a "portable" ac unit.

I think this is an 18,000 BTU a/c unit now that I think of it.

What size winch do you recommend? What brand?

I'm estimating a full weight WS6 for my car right now to be safe.

get a superwinch 3500 or 4500. Last winch youll ever buy. 3500 will do just fine.

The BTU determines how large an area it can handle. I don't think you need an 18000 btu a/c unit for a 24 foot trailer unless you are planning on making a travelling meat locker LOL. I'd say a 8000 would be plenty. Brand I dunno, pick one, your choice. I'd go to your local electronics store and see what they have. Generator, get one that's bigger then you think you will need, better off with extra juice then not enough that I'm 100% on.

Well I've got this window unit, and it's not costing me anything, other than in my way in the house

Where a decent 10,000 BTU portable/standup units are $370'ish min.

true, but your trailer is a LOT lighter than mine The dealer told me it's at 3200lbs

Then I add the car, fuel, tools, work bench, ac, air compressor, etc etc etc....there goes my weight!

What about a regular 1500 with the 5.3L? I don't know if I really need to go up to the 2500HD?

very true.

if I were to buy a tow vech, I'd go big.

you always want a bigger trailer, might as well have the truck to pull it.

a lot of people are happy with the 5.3s. they get the job done i guess, but id take a 6.0 in the 2500 any day. i had one and loved it. pulled some pretty heavy loads without a problem. and also, the 2500 will handle a lot better with a load. the 6.0 is definately worth it, im gettin ready to swap one in my 90 silverado.

also, like mentioned earlier, get it licensed for the weight. just a little extra money and its a done deal. chances are, you will never get checked for weight. but the last thing u want is to get nailed by dot. u think state troopers are bad? ****. and dot has been cracking down HARD in a lot of areas. ive seen them start hitting a lot of flatbed trailers. it is a lot more possible than what people think

when u get ur tags at the dmv, theres weight limits. for a regular truck, they'll usually just give u the standard 6,000 lb plates. thats how much the truck/trailer is allowed to haul. you can get 12k, 18k, 24k. then any heavier and u will need a class b cdl. the license plate should have a 6, 12, 18 etc for what its tagged at.

if dot sees a pickup with a trailer and thinks its overweight, they will pull you over. they do not have to have any reason at all to pull you over. if they still think you are overweight, they will make you follow them to a scale to get weighed. if you end up at a scale, you'll get more than a fine for being over weight. they'll pick ur truck a part. anything from too little tire tread, to improper cargo securement or burnt out lights. they know the average person doesnt know all the laws and technical rules they have, so they'll throw the book at ya. like i said its not likely, but is a possibility and NOT worth the chance.

yeah, we have 2 Sherrifs with portable scales in the area, but they go after the semi's.

Thanks for the Info, I'll have to look at that, if I EVER find a stupid 2500 for a decent price...
