Ditching 3" TDs for Y-pipe with bullet??
Ive been thinking about how to gain some ground clearance. My current TDs will be pretty low if I drop my car anymore so I was wondering if going to a 3" y-pipe with a bullet would flow better/as well or worse. Anyone have some input on this?? Other option is redo the TDs or buy Mufflex or similar.

I would buy the Mufflex ORY that has a 4" merge on the one end or else have someone fab you one up with a Flowmaster 4" merge. If it were me I would run a 4" muffler off that or a Mufflex 4" catback. I would think having a single 3" muffler would be quite a hinderance especially considering your future plans, I wouldn't bother with a 3.5" either.
My ground clearance has gone to **** now with my coilovers so I'm actually thinking about ditching my TD's as well. I plan to run the Mufflex ORY with their 4" Catback when I have some extra cash to burn.

Your flow should be fine 3" or 4". I've had Flowmaster catback, TSP TDs and currently modified SLP LM1/catback. . . The worst was the Flowmaster alone. Ground clearance was the reason I got rid of my TDs also. Good luck.

You won't lose much by going to the Y with bullet if thats your plan over the duals.
I lost 3hp when switching from TSP duals to Speed Inc Y with flowmaster Single chamber.
I now have a 4'' mufflex with a Cutout, I haven't put it on the rollers to see the lost/gain if any but my Trap speeds are still the same as they were with the duals cutout open or closed.

The key to making a Y-pipe preform like duals with a x=pipe is in the merge!
Need to get the Flowmaster merger or a any other 15 degree merge then step up the pipe sizing ie two 3" off the headers into a merge that step up to a 4" pipe.

Mike, I've ran 3 different exhaust set-ups on my car. First was a pacesetter Y-pipe with a bullet on the end, then came 3.5" mufflex with a flowmaster merge in the y-pipe and a flowmaster race series muffler, then my current true duals with x-pipe and flo-pro twisters dumped at the axle. Surprisingly, I haven't seen much if any performance difference between the three. Car always ran high 11s @ 117-118mph no matter which exhaust system was on it. My motivation to change exhaust each time is because I thought I would gain power. If I did, it wasn't enough to notice.
Perhaps in an application that makes more power, there might be some significant difference between the three. But from my experience in the 400-425 rwhp range you won't see much change other than sound.
That being said, I doubt you'd lose much if anything with a single bullet on your Y-pipe.

3.5 inch y pipe to 4 inch Flowmaster merge 4 inch over the axle, 4 inch Magnaflow straight through.
I can take a bend out of my Y pipe and the car runs the same as capped up.

I'm kind of going somewhere that I haven't seen anyone with a blower go, well unless you want to count Ronnie Duke back in the day.
Going to try, to go as max effort as I can, within the truestreet lsx shootout rules with a blower. (vortech Xi trim)
I'm going to initially try the system I currently have on the car, and then drop it off on the dyno and see if it picks up. If I see a huge change, then I'm gonna be looking to have a BIG set of headers made. Unless I hold out until the lsx DR head is available, which I may... in that case I'll just end up making a system that's WAY overkill big, and just run that from the get-go. Hell if I could do it and not be dq'd for it I'd run the exhaust right out the front fenders, but it's not legal for most of what I want to run. Has to exit behind the doors in most cases..with a muffler to boot. Well, as long as it looks like a muffler anyway. Couple spintech's most likly, or something that's really open, and about 4 inches thick.... cause I'm gonna run a BIG 5 inch pipe to them if I end up with a big *** set of headers. They make an ovalized 5 inch pipe now, and I know it's smaller then the 4 inch muffler case, just fat and flat, so I'll cut the muffler ends off and open the ends up to that, whatever it ends up being, probably 3.5 thick and 4.5 wide I'd guess.
