Post your times after 2.73 gear change.

I don't remember the exact details, but my car went from 8.8x's to 8.9x's. I was pretty let down. My car was bone stock on BFG's. I think it was because I just run an 1/8th mile and before I never had to shift into 3rd but with ths 3.42 I had to make that shift. Plus it would occasionally have traction problems after the gear swap.

[QUOTE=allbaugh_04;13308354]So I'll just spin more with 3.42s.....figured.
It would seem that since your tires spin more readily with 3.42's vs the 2.73's
that theres more power available.
You just can't put it to the ground.
So with a good set of drag radials I would imagine you will see some type of reduction in your et.

you will see gains. I can't give you an average improvement to expect, maybe a few tenths? but I do have an extreme example from a former car of mine. I shaved exactly 1. sec from my 1/4et swapping from 2.41s to 4.10s. car was an '85 Regal I swapped a 406sbc/th350-3500stall into. seems those super high stock highway/economy gears were holding me back lol.

Jeez thats a big change.
I just got the car back from my tune...I got a cam and SS4000 and it won't keep the nittos attached to the pavement, even with 2.73s.
I guess it's time to step it up to an MT.

I had other mods before the gear swap but my results were:
2.73's and stock stall = 8.7x in 1/8
3.73's and TCI SSF 3000 = 8.1x in 1/8
It's been a couple of years back, but the stall+gears yielded over half a second in the 1/8

No they make 342-373 I think 410 for the 2 seriers carrier. When I install my 3000-3200 stall,LT's/ORY/160 stat/Frost tune Iam gonna run with the 273s for a while and see how it runs then Iam doing 373s.

Alot of sites that sell gears don't specify if they are for a 2 or 3 carrier. I wanna go with Motive or gm gears. Best place that specifies would be??

I only dropped from 13.06 to 12.91 when switching from 2.73 to 3.73 gears and adding LCA's, relco brackets, and PHB. But I was on BFG KDW's both times and had more wheelspin with the 3.73's. Made a difference in seat of the pants on the street but didn't gain much at the track. When I go back to the track I'll have some M/T's to help with the wheelspin and a SS4000.

Granted you can put the power to the ground, The 3.42 gears will benefit you some. IMO, A few tenths can be had if you do not spin.
Remember that if your spinning then you need to address other areas such as suspension, and maybe another tire may help. Some cars like MT's, some like BFG's, and some like Hoosiers, and etc. It's all a learning experience when playing with power, weight, gear, stall, traction, etc.
Everything you do to a car benefits something else, and may have a consequence in another area.
Good Luck, And I'd put the gear in the car.
Just my .02
It'll feel Much funner in the seat of the pants, and May or may not hurt you. But it's worth putting in there. And if it spins too much, You need to start spending some money on suspension.
Good Luck!
