Default Need advice. Drag tire for a M6 9 inch car!!!

This is posted in the wheels/tires section too. But I figured I might get a better response in here.

All right Iam finally pulling the trigger on a ford 9 inch. Right now the car has prostars front and rear. 15x10 in the back with a 275/50/15 Nitto DR on it and its lowered in the rear about 1 inch.

A couple people told me that being a M6 car I should really switch to more of a wrinkle wall type drag tire like the E/T street or the QTP. My issue is that I only have these wheels and I do like to take the car out on the street to local shows and drive it too the track. Its by no means a DD. So here are my questions

1. Iam leaning towards the 27x11.5x15 Hoosier QTP. Will it fit without any issues?

2. How well will it do on the street?
3. Do I need this type of tire or can just stay with a DR instead?

Iv got a 325/50 (28in) Radial right now on my 6 speed..and Im soon going to a Bias Ply, Prob the ET Street, and I do drive my car..to and from the track about an hour down the highway, To and from shows. As long as its not raining, and you dont drive like your 16..youll be fine! Any bias ply is going to be washy and not take corners, but this all comes with a car thats getting more and more set up for drag racing..

Gear choice can play a lot of what size tire you should run..somethin to think about!

Ive had more luck with the QTP's, than the et streets. They seem to hook a little bit better and last MUCH longer at least for me.

You might need to do some bfh'ing and minor cutting but 28's will be easier to hook consistantly. Im running 28x 13.50-15's and they are very consistant vs my old 27" et streets....

Did you pick up or slow down using the bigger tire? Also what gearing do you run? I just switched from 27s to 28s.

I dont think the 28s will fit considering my car is lowered. Thats why I was going to go to a 27. I dont want to have to roll the lips unless it becomes necessary too because my SS has a really expensive paint job on it and I dont want to crack the paint on the lips.

mph the same, dropped 60'.

4.56's

there are a bunch of us m6's with 420-440 rwhp, with 28's.... we all 60' hard...

Too many people think that 420 rwhp isnt enough to turn a 28, and thats why they stay in the upper 11's. 4.56 is a great gear if you can spin high enough rpm, if not it should work with 4.11's or 4.30's as well.

Go 4.56 Gears and 28" tire and forget Radials for the track.

I have a set of 315/60/15 (30") for when I race but im planning on buying some nittos in a similar size for the street. If I were you id look for a pair of prostars and buy some race tires, then you have the best of both worlds, ive never gotten nittos to hook really well at the track but the treadwear and price is hard to beat for a street tire.

Im in that power range NA have 4.10s now with 28s and can wind out to 7k. Im going to a spool and thinking about changing to a 4.56. Problem is Im also going to spray the car so Im sure ill be out of gear with the 4.56.

I've had great luck with ET Streets, both radial and not. I have Hoosiers now but haven't tested them enough to give an opinion. I'd just go with 315 et street radials, they'll hook.

4.56's and 28's

And Id do ET Drags if you want the most out of the car at the track. ET Streets are not even close to the same "with a few tread lines cut in" as the drags.

^^True but you can't run ET Drags on the street... well, you can but it's not fun. And 315 radials should be more than enough to hook up.

Still getting alot of good replies here. Thanks.

But I really cant make up my mind I guess until I take it back to the track on the current nittos and see what she does. Then I will make my choice.

I drove on et streets to a track 2 hours away from me ran some good times and drove back home on them. As long as you drive right they will do ok on the street.
