back to the original post. does anyone have close up pics of how much they cut off the rear bumper cover for a 28" slick or how much they had to hammer in fitting a 10" rim with a 28x10.50. I'm interested to see how much needs to be modified.

I dont ever do it because it makes sense.

Just a little advice, and my .02 cents.

Also dont do a burnout in the waterbox. roll through it, pull out of the water then do your burnout. Again, this is just some advice and my .02 cents.
Thats a very good point on spinning in the water box and getting water in the wheel wells... it makes sense and I for the longest have spun the tires at least one full rotation in the water box rolled forward and then did my burnout. I think now i will just try rolling through the water box without spinning the tires and do my burnout.

We should be adding to this thread shortly with some real world info. We just mounted the tries this morning, but the set up on the car is:

Midwest Chassis Fab 9, Narrowed 3" per side
Champion Wheels 15X10 with 4" back space
Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials 275/60R15 (28x10.5)

So far all we have really done is cut off the bumpstops, but we havent tried to put the wheels and tires on the car yet. Im sure Chris will have some info/pics later today when he gets back home.

Let me see if I can help!

Install a line lock kit ASAP best money you can spend. It allows you to do a better burnout because you do not have to over ride the back brakes. More than likely you problem is occurring because of the back brakes applying uneven pressure. Do not spin you tires in the water it is not needed and only throws water up in the wheel wells only to drip down at the starting line!

You asked what you have to do to get a specific tire on a Formula and everyone is providing you with their input on cars other then Formulas except for a few.

I have a 98 Formula and have gone the same route you are on. Let me say you will not be able to install a 28X10.5X15 ET Drag on your car without having adjustable LCA's. The reason is you have to center the wheel and tire combo in the wheel wells. There are other things that must be done as well but I agree with the OP's you really do not need that big of a tire.

You can run the 26X10X15 ET Drag which is what you should run on a 15X8 wheel anyway. I can assure you that going from the ET Street to an ET Drag tire will make all the difference you need. When I made that change the car pickup a full tenth and I never had a problem again and the car 60 footed the same every pass. I ran 10.53 with a 1.39 60 foot NA with the 26 inch ET Drag video in sig and a 10.25 with a 1.34 60 foot time on a 75 shot of nitrous letting off to keep it off the back bumper. You will not need LCA's or do anything to the inner fender wells.

I hope this helps!

26x10s sound good. I just put on non adjustable control arms, dont really want to buy new ones. Also looks like a 28 would rub the back part of the bumper plastic. I'll have results thursday or saturday.

Well i have a fab 9, dbl adjustabe lower control arms, and a dbl adjustable panhard bar, but i just fit 275 60 15's on 10 inch wide champion wheels. I cut the bumpstops off, because i didn't need or want them, other then that i only had 1 small spot that touched which was some metal from wheel well near where the lca is on the driver side. Little hammering, and cutting, and they fit perfect.

Good luck, chris

I had 28x11.5 QTPs on 15x8 5.5 bs rims at stock height with NON adjustable suspension they seemed to fit just fine. Then I dropped the car had to roll the fenders, when I added LCA relocation brackets I needed adj LCAs to get them centered again.

It will not hurt them unless you get a nail or something in them. Do not get caught in a rain. Of course you know it is not legal to drive with them on your car on the street so you already know what could happen if you get pulled over.

I drive around the pits for 15 minutes warming the car up!

when i installed my 28" DRs i didnt have to cut the bumper since i was on stock ride height and the wheels were prety much centred. now after i lowered the ride i had to get adjustable LCAs.
i dont know much about cutting the bumper but here is some info u might use from a thread i started back when i was about to fit mine on,

Ran a new best with the 26x10 ET drags but they still chattered a little off the line. Made some 1/8 mile passes so I would get kicked out and then 1 1/4 pass at the end of the night. Tried to spray a 150 off the line, it didnt do to bad. Theres more in the 60 tho.

Best 1/8 pass:

1.52
6.86@100.42

Best 1/4 pass:
1.55
6.90@100.61
10.82@126.34
