Default Help with breaking into 12s on street tires

Ok, I want to break a 12 on street tires before I get drag radials and aim for low 12s high 11s. I'm trapping around 113 114 as of my last time I visited the track, best 60ft being around 2.3 and running a 13.1 basically, even though the elevation is higher here I feel I can hit a 12 with some little tinkering. What is some advice? I have my kyb agx shocks set to stiffest all around, I was going to remove my pass seat and rear seats and think about front sway bar also. Any ideas?

Yikes. What are you using for tires? That 60' is killing you...badly. Even on street tires you should be able to get it down into the 1.9X area pretty easily with some practice.

THEN you're well into the 12s, that's a mid-12s MPH without question.

I have some goodyear emt's.. they are a little dryrotted lol but I try to warm them up a little in front of the waterbox to get them soft for the time being. I'm rolling out around 2k, feathering clutch.

Don't warm them up, that only makes street tires more slick. When I ran my 6-speed on street tires, stock suspension, lowered, I used to slip it big from about 3500-4000 and get a solid 1.9X or 2.0X at the worst.

Well the thing is when I don't warm up it spins even worse it seems. With my mods it chirps 4th easily on street or track. 1st and 2nd is useless almost so I'm trying to think of anything I can to get a little more traction with street tires.

Better (not old, dry) street tires will help a lot, too!

Yes, the sway bar removal is a good mod. Honestly I believe you can hit 12s on street tires with simply more seat time. Drive around the water box if allowed, do a decent burnout, put you tires around 26psi and try to slip the clutch out slightly and you will get it. Practice, practice practice. Good Luck!

Even with that 60' your et seems pretty high. How's your shifting? You might want to try loosening up the front shocks when you pull the front swaybar. Honestly though I'd look into getting a better set of tires first because if the tires are ****, not much else is going to matter.

I'd have to agree that 60' is killing you badly....what track are you running at in PA?? I usually go down to Cecil County to run my car, maybe take a trip down there if you're not that far from it, you'll have no problem running 12's then.

I'm pretty far from cecil and I run at numidia usually. I had some brand new riken raptors up front I switched to the back, going to try them out instead of the 2/32 dryrotted goodyears I was running on back. My shifting is fine except 3rd, my syncro is going is 3rd so I can't slam it in that quick anymore, gotta take a time going to 3rd but still should be more then enough to break a 12. I figure if im trapping at 113 at numidia I should def be able to hit a 12 with street tires, getting 60ft down is the key.

Im in the same boat..

60' always 2.2xx.

I did 5 runs tonight and always had 2.2 60's and jumped around in between 13.7-14.1.

What gives? Granted my mph was in 102-104 range... Im sure its that spinning in the beginning killing my mph and 1/4 times... seeing as to how I was trapping that before with only a lid.

Well the issue is your running decent power on a m6 and street tires and thats a recipe for high MPH and crap ET's.

It used to be the old adage that IF I was racing a 6 speed LS1 at the track, I would generally win but if I RICED from a roll I'd lose.

I set out to change that a m6 car can be a contender and its well on it's way. But that took a good clutch (better then LS7), a good DS, and a 12 bolt with a Bias Ply and the will to let the clutch fly up to 6k and dump!

IMO air quality will play a major role and you will probably have to fry the clutch slipping it out the hole.

1 tenth in the 60' is generally 2 tenths in the 1/4 and if you even do a 1.9 or 2.0 your 2/3rds of the way there. Then good cold air will make up the rest.

Went again this week, probably a dumb idea since it rained and was pretty humid but I had nothing better to do. Still couldnt do 12, best time was 13.2 at 112.9 so basically the same exact time as my best of 13.1 at 113 lol. I don't understand how I can trap so high yet run what stock or bolton fbodies are running, humid or not. My best 60ft was a 2.15

Your 60 ft sucks and old dry rotted tires arent even safe. Youre wasting your time on those shitty tires.

A video would be nice to see what's going on. No Disrespect - Are you shifting slow? Possibly your car is pulling timing on the big end? Do you have datalogging capabilities? For comparison sake, when my car was lid, LTS, cats and catback at 330 hp on street tires I would go 13.0 and one pass I went a low 8.5 which would have shown a high 12.9 but wouldn't you know the ticket machine only printed the 1/8 mile time, yeah!

You deff have the power, we just need a little more detailed info to help.

Not sure what to say, I'm launching around 2500rpm ish max feathering, any higher it breaks loose obviously cause of the street tires. I'm shifting pretty normal now since I changed the tranny fluid and everything is smooth again, could probably get a little faster but im not sure that is the major issue. I don't have any datalogging and when I had the exact same as you, longtubes and put down 330rwhp on mustang dyno, the best I could run was a 13.9 at 106 or 107 I believe. I have a video here I'm not sure if it will help but its something. The video below I think was right when it started raining so It was even worse, but I believe it was a 13.4 at 113 or 112.

The thing I can't figure out is im dead even with my friends supercharged 440rwhp foxbody mustang who ran mid to high 12s on STREET TIRES & my other buddys h/c/i a4 camaro ss, who runs consistant high 11s on 315 nitto dr. So I don't understand this lol.
