My car is GUTTED. Every superfluous bracket, mounting point, attachment, etc is gone. Scraped excess seam sealer out. Cut other brackets that needed to stay to the bare minimum. There is nothing behind my dash except necessary wiring. I still need to strip the wiring harnesses down to the bone. I'm pulling the wipers and motor this week, along with the rear bumper support. Everything that can be pulled out, will be. My car isn't a driver.

Yeah JL, that rubber matting is really heavy.
When I did the weight reduction in the car this past winter, I was shocked how heavy the passenger side airbag assembly was. Can't recall exactly, but it was at least as heavy as a bowling ball. An aftermarket steering wheel like a Grant is usually much lighter than the factory steering wheel/airbag assy.

I have one of DMH's column's here with a removable hub and a grant wheel. It's about 4 lbs for the whole thing, wheel and all.
Granted I am race wiring and there's no provisions on it for blinkers, start/key ign, etc.... but still.
I still have the airbag and factory wheel in my car (airbag stuff is removed so it can't go off but it's still in the wheel), I'll bet this column and the wheel change will take 25 lbs out of the car.

I have a Grant wheel on the way. I'll look at the rubber mat tonight. Can I get it out without having to pull the dash again? I'm getting ready to start putting some interior back in the car!! Should have my K-Mart special light weight carpet in tonight.

I'd have ordered the ozite from yourautotrim.com, the 80 inch width lets you do the whole car in 1 piece if you want.
The rubber mat can all come out, but the dash needs to be out, pull it again. You'll have to cut it in pcs to get it out, but it's worth it. Weigh it all when it's out, every piece and the plastic clips, and give me a weight. I have what mine weigh'd, but I need a 2nd opinion on that.

It's staying in for now then. I'm not pulling the dash again for the time being. I'm going racing this weekend and have a laundry list of stuff to finish before Thursday, I'm not adding projects. Ozite is all well and good, but I got this stuff for $5 bucks a roll. 1 roll covers half the floor from the front, to the rear seat pan. 4 rolls should do the whole car. $20 is much less than $200.

200?? I think 4 yards will do the whole car, and that's not 200 bucks... I've done a car for a guy and didn't charge him 200 including my cost of the material, glue, and the 6 hours it took me to do it.
Check the website, I know it's nowhere near that cost, unless it's gone WAY up in the last year.

A sponsor on here used to charge $200 for the same thing. So that's what was stuck in my head. There is a pretty good markup in them there race car parts!
I didn't make much progress last night, wasn't feeling well. Carpet and plastics should go back in tonight, along with fresh plugs and changing the pill to the biggest one I can find
