Buying track tires, need advise
Hello there old wise ones....
I'm ready to buy a set of slicks or radials, my question is which one would be better for my combo ?? Here's some info; 04 ZO6, IRS, 2975lbs, 6speed, McLeod RXT clutch, bout 450 RWHP (N/A) and 650ish on spray. My concern is with the independent rear, which tire will give me the best 60ft but not annihiate the rear end. Just FYI, I've got hardend output shafts and a diff brace. Obviously I'll be playing with the progressive system and trying to launch on as much spray as possible.
Thanks in advance for the input....

I just picked up a set of hoosier drag radials, while researching them, it seems they are the best radial for a manual car. Suppose to have a softer sidewall then the M/Ts. If it dosnt matter between radial vs. bias ply, id still say bias ply for a manual 9/10 times

So just to clarify, you guys are saying the soft sidewall of the slick would absorb some shock better than a drag radial. Thus letting the rear end live a little longer and allowing me to spray more out of the hole. Just worried about the excellent traction of a slick vs the little bit of spinning out of the hole by the radial.
So to sum it up, which tire for a stick car on spray with a rear end not made for 1.45 60ft's ??

No the soft sidewall absorbs the shock and keeps the tires planted...not what you want right now.
A radial is what you need. I dont know what M/T radials will do for you as far as hooking, they dont ever seem to be that great for a stick. Thats why I suggested the Hoosier Drag radial...might be the best of both worlds. A little forgiving to the rear end but hook decent. Id let you know how they do tomarrow, but Ive got a TH400 now...

The bias tire will absorb some of the shock so the trans and rear end will last longer. More importantly the bias will absorb the shock and send you down the track wile the radial will not absorb the shock and spin leving you watching the other guy speed off to the finish line.

Like said above the Hoosier radials have a soft sidewall like a slick. My car on motor at the LTX shootout was cutting 1.42 sixties. These are some great radials ! I also ran M/T but liked the Hoosiers better sixty.
A couple pics to show the wrinkle in the sidewall. The last pic was on Hoosier 315/35/17's 1.46 on 17's

Just got done at the track...And my opinion of the Hoosier is A+. I played with the Trans brake a lil bit, When I hit the tires as hard as possilbe, they spun maybe a revolution or two and recovered immediately. Bias ply grip and forgiveness with Radial construction
