Default Best street tire short time...

Looking for non-DR/non-slick 60 foots.
Specifically Sumitomo's.

Just had someone tell me they know someone that cut a 1.7 on SumiHomo's.
Not buying this for a second.
Am I wrong?

Not Sumitomos, but I cut a 1.75 60' on 16" Fusion ZR1 hockey pucks. Can't imagine them being better than Sumitomos. Pretty sure I could better that with practice. Have only made 3 runs on street tires with new 3600 Vig. Got better each pass. Last pass was 1.75. I think I've seen a post of someone cutting a 1.68 60' on street tires.

I guess an automatic might do it.

I have those tires on the back of my car now....and it just spins and spins if I go WOT in 1st or 2nd.
Just on my car to get me by....as I hate them.

I had worn 275 Continental hold the road better than lightly used 315 Sumi's.

I cut a 1.74 once on some Sumitumo HTRZ's. 275/40/17's on heavy Replica wheels no less.

Been in the 1.7x's multiple times on street tires.

I know a local guy who has cut 1.5 on some kind of street tire (not dr's). He races in the "street tire" class at the local track. He's got it figured out, I tell ya. My personal best was in the 1.8 range.

I have done in my old LT1 383 car with no stall or gearing, stock suspension, A4, 245/50-16 Falkens was 1.76. Good Prep is my guess on the time.

i've been 1.5x on some 275/65 treaded tires... forgot the company, they were off brand.

i used to race in a true radial class (no drag radials)

after i got done with them they looked nothing like a true radial though

255/45-17 Sumitomo HTR-Z with a 180 treadwear get me 1.8's. I run them at 19 PSI with a decent burnout. If the track has bad prep its harder to get them to work.

First pass I ever made at the track in my life my car cut a 1.67 @ 7.92 with a gear, converter, long tubes and a tune on FIREHAWKS with stock suspension. They were 18" tires, maybe 285/35/18 and it suprised me so much that it snatched the steering wheel right out of my hand! lol
