Couple of Specific Roll Bar/Cage Q's..
yeah, so I did a search on here and the web, found some info on my questions, but I must be some kinda f'n retard man because I still need some clarification
1) So what exactly IS the rule NHRA wise for T top cars next year? Specifically if my car runs in the 10's(10.00-10.99 e.t range) with Ttops, what will be required of me NHRA tech wise? Will a 6 point bar do the trick, or am I going to need a 10 point cage?
2) My second question is this, since I'm really hoping I can get away with a 6 point bar...I tried finding out what it takes to make the wolfe bolt in ones NHRA legal, but couldn't. What would need to be done to a bolt in to make it cool beans with the techs?
TIA, that's all I got

To tell you the truth, in my experience you are going to get conflicting answers online. You should buy the $10 rulebok and read it, or if you are going to have a chassis guy do all the work let him handle all of that for you. Just my $.02.

From the '04 rulebook:
Roll Bar
Roll bar mandatory in all cars (including T-tops) running 11.00 (*7.00) to 11.99 (*7.49), in convertibles running 11.00 (*7.00) to 13.99 (*8.59).
Roll Cage
Roll Cage mandatory in cars running 10.99 (*6.99) or quicker or any car exceeding 135 mph. In full bodied cars, with unaltered firewall, floor, and body (from firewall rearward, wheeltubs permitted), running between 10.00 (*6.40) and 10.99 (*6.99), roll bar permitted in place of cage. In convertibles running 10.99 or quicker, or exceeding 135 mph, roll cage mandatory. Cars running between 7.50 (*4.50) and 9.99 (*6.39) must have chassis inspected every three years by NHRA and have a serialized sticker affixed to cage before participation. Plating of chassis prohibited for all cars manufactured after 1/1/2003.
Pertinent General Regulations 4:10, 10:6
4:10 Roll Bars
Swing out sidebars permitted. Side bar must be included on the driver's side, and must pass the driver at a midway point between the shoulder and elbow.
Unibody cars with stock floor and firewall (wheeltubs permitted) may attach roll bar with 6-inch x 6-inch x .125-inch steel plates on top and bottom of floor bolted together with at least four 3/8-inch bolts and nuts, or weld main hoop to rocker sill area with .125-incc reinforcing plates welded completely.
10:6 Head Protector
In any car where a roll bar or roll cage is installed, a padded head protector must be provided at the back of the driver's head and constructed in an attempt to prevent whiplash upon impact. The roll bar or cage must be padded wherever it may come in contact with the driver's helmet.

Awesome info man
But it only raises a few questions still.
1) Is a t-top car considered full bodied or a convertible, because I've heard they were considering T tops same as convertible.
2)I keep seeing people say that a bolt in can be made legal just by welding the bars to the hoop, but it says that is for unibody cars, which an f body is not, correct?

Well I think I'm going to consider doing a cromoly bolt in and weld the bars to the main hoop.
Wolfe has that kit that turns a 6 point into a 10 if that ever becomes necessary but I sure hope it doesn't, I like cruising the car with the tops off and don't want some ugly *** cage showing.
Thanks for the help all

i just went through all of this.
for minimum safety to run 10.0 to 10.99 you need
5 point roll bar (door bar being on drivers side)
the rear bars and backseat bar must be welded to the main hoop
you need a 5 point harness
you need a multilayer jacket
this is in addition to a approved helmet, driveshaft loop, long wheel studs
may have left more little things out.

heres a paragraph i made for the fast ls1 site because as u stated[ita also post in ls1 tech a few times as people asked ] alot of people are useing the wrong terminoligy] ,a cage is a cage and a roll bar is a roll bar[a roll bar can have 5pts 6pts 7pts and8 pts,a cage can have 6 pt ,8,10 12pts] a lot of people call up for cages and their trying to ask for roll bars its a common mistake
,most cages are actualy are 6pt unless 2 diagnal bars go to tunnel or frame connectors[before everyone jumps on me the 2 side bars usually go to the front uprights so unless you have the 2 diags like i said and they are mandatory when a cage is put on plates[pge 209 of rule book see diag. read D] if its a chassis car[ ie chevelle, malibu, corvetteanything with a full frame under it]the cage then has to be mounted to the chassis and dosnt require the 2 diags to tunnel. what else is needed are ,a window net, padding anywhere drivers helmet can contact[pge 203], and the instaler should put tabs for required shoulder harness [so its bolted to spine bar and cannot slip off you in case of accident]and if you go faster than 9.99 a chassis cert that should cover the basics hope this helps. bob
