Default Brakes

I bought a 96 Formula A4 a while ago for 680 bucks and it came witout the rear end. I picked one up off a 95 Convertible Trans Am 6spd and decided to leave the calipers, rotors and pads there. I am building my car up for strip only with an occasional cruise on the street. What brakes should i go with? I know the stock brakes should be enough but would the calipers i left behind be good since they have been at the junkyard for a while now and cost about 30 for both or the newer stock ones run 130 each.

I am on a budget so what aftermarket brakes are there to work with? I dont need anything that looks pretty since they wont be seen behind the stock wheels for now.

you looking for drag brakes? putting the stock wheels on drag brakes may cause some problems with clearance in the wheel well due to their skinny thickness. but that could be fixed w/ some spacers.

Well are drag brakes really necessary for a car that will only be looking at running 12's or 11's till more money comes in?

if you went and bought new pads and rotors it would be a little more and you will not have to grind your calipers to fit a 15 inch rim basicly you will want them later down the road

Well I know that the stock rotors would come out to 27 bucks each. I am mainly wondering if I should just take the risk and work with the junkyard calipers for now or if I should just wait it out till I find a deal somewhere?

junk yards have lots of cool stuff. but, i wouldn't take a set of calipers unless the vehicle was newly wrecked. the seals go bad.

u could rebuild the calipers but its easier and not much more $ to purchase rebuilt calipers.
