Default Old school 12 bolt

Will an older 12 bolt in a chevelle blow up from a 6k dump like the newer ones Or howl like they do in our F-body cars? I hate my spool in my TA and wont put one in the chevelle. Putting my LS1/t56 in the chevelle.
thanks
Jay

The old 10 bolts are much stronger than the ones in 4th gens. There a 8.5" vs the 4th gen 7.5".

My only concern is the possible fabrication work needed. Those rears typically were more akin to a G or B body car.

See.... and yes, the 2nd image is a Aftermarket Strange but you get the point....

Ahh, I had to re-read the O/P, and I would say you should clarify it up a little. I have had a 70 Chevelle with a 8.5 and that never was an issue, thankfully.

I would check some websites the specialize in either that rear or that particular car and see generally what things you can do to strengthen incase that is a concern.

depending on what kind of power your making, i have a 12 bolt in my 79 camaro that held up to 4k rpm trans brake launches on slicks for 8 years bracket racing it, it had stock axles and a stock gm posi unit. i went as fast as 1.45 60 ft. with the wheels in the air and never had a problem with it.

the12 bolt will hold up fine guys run 8's on em ..its my understanding the problem with the camaro 12 bolt is the torque arm mount cause the case to flex ...i have a 12 bolt in my chevelle with a moser 33 spline posi it has held up well car goes 10.30's off the trans brake ,,,the rearend has lived i did kill a ring gear ..other than that you should have no problems..car has a full interior and weighs 3700 ish with out driver ...

^^^Ture!!

The only problem with the 12 Bolts for the F-bodys is the Torque Arm..it just stresses the housing and causes them to wine. A Good built 12 bolt from Strange or Moser will hold up for a long time in an F-body but I promis they make noise...just like mine. Mine has seen 7000 clutch drops and has never failed me. It just makes some noise. The old 10 bolts are really strong like stated above, so youll be just fine..Its just the T/A that stresses the ones in a 3rd and 4th gen F-bodys..
