I would love to see some pics and or info on a alternator only setup. How did you do it? What belt? I have a 2006 lq4 so if I can keep the stock balancer that would be cool.

^^^^that BMR relocation kit works good in an fbody, but may not fit if you have the engine in something else. It also spaces the alternator the correct distance from the block for the f-body balancer. It may work with some spacers for the truck style, but I'm not sure.

Here is a pic. The idler pulley by alternator, I just changed out to a serpentine. Its hard to see it only goes around Alt. I'm pretty sure this is the truck tensioner. The belt I used is from Auto Z part # 550K6 or

honeslty, you dont even need the idler there. i did the 'short belt' mod (no idler) and have never had a prob with issues of not enough belt-wrap for the waterpump. plus i cant see the flat side of the tensioner against the ribbed part of the belt being a good idea

are you talking about just the belt around the crank pulley and alternator only? yes i can be done. the BMR bracket works really good on that. im assuming you are planning on running an electric waterpump

What would the desired alternator be that would work with the BMR bracket? This is going on a pro street style car and I'd enjoy the ease of a single wire setup without a ton of drag from the alternator itself.

I am running just an alternator. One thing I did NOT want was a fugly *** alternator mounted high on the motor to f up the look of my engine bay.
There were two options for me:
AEIcnc.com
http://www.aeicnc.com/lsmocoalki.html
Also bought into a East Coast alternator "super mini". Had slightly more power output than AEI's but meant i would have to make my own bracket.
I can say going both ways i had enough room to mount it low like the AEI and also run reverse log turbo setup.

Have you actually sat down and measured out how much amperage you are using, or just guessing? The Underdrive pulley really has nothing to do with it, as you get a custom size pulley from AEI that will match up to whatever diamater crank pulley you have. Notice in the above pic, they mocked that one up based on a Summitt UDP.

NEMSS1- If you read the post I changed out the smooth idler pulley to a serpentine pulley! That is just the way I set it up for my application.
