Default Strange Lighweight front Drag Brakes

Is it worth buying lightweight spindles for these, or mount them on the stock spindles(modified and cut per instruction by Strange)? Any one running them? Post pics if you got them. Thank you.

Stock caliper mounts are cut off, not quite sure what else since I didnt install them. They are very lightweight, if I understand correctly they are cheaper than strange as well.

i run the strange with the stock spindles. you have to cut the stock caliper mounts off and trim about an inch off the end of the a-arm (if you have stock a-arms). strange includes a diagram of what and how much needs to be cut..its not very difficult

Burkhart makes a kit with a chromoly spindle and a 3rd gen drag brake assembly for a little more than 4th gen drag brakes. The kit is $1075 with Aerospace brakes or $1200 with Strange brakes. I'm sure you'd save an honest 20lbs more with this kit. The stock spindles are heavy as hell. Last time I checked 4th gen drag brakes were $980ish which is a joke. Here's the link for the Burkhart kit:

I had aerospace with the stock spindles, which worked well and saved a GOOD bit of weight (I had the hub style, which have their own hub), and now have the complete burkhart front end... I can tell you that you are going to save about 30 lbs more with the LW spindles then you would reusing the stock ones....

And for the price of the burkhart kit... why would you not?!?! Due to it using the 3rd gen brake, the kit price is only 300 bucks more... for another 30 lbs off the car, on the front... that's a no brainer!

I went from a stock k member, stock a arms, stock rack, a set of qa1 shocks and the aerospace brake kit to the full burkhart front end with afco double adjustable shocks, and it was 130 lbs lighter then what was on the car. I also had mine built to narrow the front end 1 inch per side as well.

That's some weight loss. Will definitely look into Burkhart's brake/spindle kit. Thanks.

Thanks for all the compliments. The lightweight spindles use a different brake setup than stock. If you want to do that, then do it now and don't spend $$ on brakes twice.

We offer a Strange brake setup for the 98-02 stock spindles that does not require any cutting of the control arm or spindle. this is also upgradable to the race spindles at a later date without throwing away expensive parts. comes with all hardware, brackets, and even braided lines and adapter fittings, and best yet it's much less costly than the regular kit. fwiw you get most of your weight savings from the brakes alone, but if you get the spindle at the same time that's the ultimate. we are also working on the same kit for the 93-97 spindles.

I don't see any brakes listed on your website. I don't see race spindles listed either. I see cool suspension stuff though!

EDIT-- For Mr Burger--what is your opinion on the difference between the Aerospace brakes and the Strange brakes? Are they worth the $125 more? I don't know anyone personally that runs either so any feedback is appreciated.

only thing I've heard is the aerospace calipers are prone to sticking, but it's been a few years since I've heard it. I think the spindles and aerospace stuff from burkhart sounds like a great cost effective setup, if they perform!

When do you think you'll have the ones for the 93-97 LT1's?

I will be the first one to throw up the at that... I've ran the aerospace for a couple years and never, NEVER had a problem. Granted I do some pretty good maintenance with my stuff, once a year I take the brakes apart, inspect, clean and reassemble, not sure if that has anything at all to do with it... but I've never had an issue. Probably 200 lasses on my first set of them and they never stuck or gave me any issues...

And considering that they're within a lb of strange, at over 150 bucks a set cheaper, I'll run them and feel pretty good about it. Stopping power, was always good IMO, I've driven cars with both, and I can say that neither one feels any different as far as braking power.

The Aerospace brakes are within ounces of the Strange. I would say the weight is essentially the same. As for quality, we have sold thousands of sets of Aerospace and a lot of Strange. Never had a set of Aerospace come back for anything. We have not seen the sticking of the piston as has been rumored either.

The quality is about the same with either. You just pay a bit for the Strange name. If you want the designer brakes we can sell you those. If you want great brakes at a great price we have those too.

The only thing I wish aerospace would come out with.. is a carbon fiber rotor, that could be bolted up in place of the steel ones...

Steve, any chance that's a possibility? Maybe they're working on something, and it will be an easy swap for guys like me that already have the brakes... I could just buy the replacement carbon rotor and pads to go with it... that would be mint.
