Ghost you can remove that top plastic piece with the burkhart support, I did, and it worked fine without it.

You can, also drill a couple large holes in the middle of the burkhart support plates taht bolt to the body.... it will take some more weight off it. I never did it to mine, but I was going to until I decided to just go 100% on it.

Damn! I had a c/m single bar done for my old fox body that weighed only 3 LBS!! At that weight i may just lighten the factory piece myself and save some money. Even better was it only cost me $65 and saved 27 LBS!!

If you cut the frame horns off, put a flat plate to them and weld up a support like the burkhart piece, you can come in a good bit lighter. The burkhart piece, is designed with nhra legal tubing so that a fuel cell can be housed in there legally, a radiator can be mounted in it as well..

A single bar, like you are talking about would work and could be made at a substantially lighter weight. However, that's not what 1/2 the people want, 1/2 of them are looking for a place to mount the above items.... Hence why burkhart made the support like they did.

If they made you one, that just had the attachment plates, and the upper and lower bar with 1 connector, and the tabs to hold the cover in place on the top, and made it out of a small diameter tubing which wouldn't be legal or strong enough to mount anything it could be alot lighter. But, to redesign and go thru all that for only 1 or 2 pcs, is a pita. That's best left for a shop to do when the car's there.

Not a boxer, it is a mutt. We know it's mom was a shepard, but we don't whats is dad is, I think It was a mix from a boxer and a ridge back.

No fog light mounts, because I am doing a front mount turbo, intercooler is going there.

I am going to see what I need to keep the front end together for my front moung build. Once I finish my build I will see where I am with the weight. Thanks for the help though, always interested to see where weight can come off of these cars.

Both LT1 versions have a lot of complex bends in them. They take a lot longer to make. we have to recover labor cost.
