Default stock lower dash bar

Anyone remove it? did you have to make anything up? This is for a friends car, doesn't run a console. I never fully took mine out, but did and its a few pounds. Not around the car right now, only get to work on it a little one weekends.

Just cut the ends off like 2" long. basicly like L brackets. so it catches the bottom outside corners. Never had a problem with that. then just get a piecec of aluminum to screw the glovebox screws into.

I might consider some small holes in that piece, but I wouldn't remove it. That supports the dash alot, I can see a car that leaves hard having the dash break off on ya at the launch without any support from that piece... that would not be good!

ya The bar is 6#s.

I forgot how the ends are? thous studs on them or was that the firewall right? I figured on just running the middle silver bracket, or make some lighter alum straps, that go to the tab of the tunnel. I'll make something up to attach it to, so its not super loose. Might be mounting some ele. boxes in the glovebox, so I'll see what the glove box needs to the strong.

Never took a car down to bare shell, got the column out and there was a thick metal plate on top of the column. Can I take that out? Car has has a BBC and a 4500 carb, so dosn't run the stock gauge cluster.
And got pedals off the car, to get all the firewall pad off. Was a t56 car, the gas pedal is some aftermarket alum. But still has the clutch arm, and some brackets off the pedals for the clutch master and all the switches I can cut out. (keeping brake light). But can I cut off everything but the 4 nuts that go to the brake master, or dose the brake pedal need more then house 4 nuts on the firewall?

In most cases when you cut/grind once, you cut forever and if you never plan on ever going back, then like said cut it and use Fiberglass.

After helping JL and watching now I understand why some people really flip the biscut when someone makes a real race car out of a "rarer" Fbody such as 99 HOSS, or a 98 Firebird WS.6 1LE 1 of X car and how much little is left.

Wait until you come over again. Air system is in the garage and all set, and the cutting has again commenced LOL.

I really need someone to start forcign me to take pictures as it goes, because by the time I get another picture of the car at the rate it's going it's gonna be all done.

I always said I was gonna do a thread like Phil, Tom and Brian did... I just always forget the camera, and then by the time I remember it, I have no more enthusiasm to go back out again

Cutting, I think will be done in a couple weeks, then it will be ready to go off the the fab shop.... as soon as this motor sell's!
