Kirkey seat install

if you do a search, you'll find a good amount of pics of people installing both the pro drag whatever it's called and the economy drag something or other in all sizes using aftermarket brackets and custom made ones to bolt the seats to the floors... and of course some with the additional bracing to the cages.
I just installed the 17" pro drag yesterday using bolt on brackets from a company that make not be a sponsor, no cage in the car yet... but seems very sturdy and hopefully safe for the time being. Thanks ls1tech and the search function

You dont HAVE to have a cage do you? If you need a back brace you could use 6LE http://6litereaterdesigns.com/store/...roducts_id=209
To answer your question... you don't ABSOLUTELY need to brace the back of the kirkey... but it's just the best and safest thing to do. Bigger and heavier guys seem to feel a little flex in the seat without it, but... i'm about 230 lbs and with my seat only bolted to the floor it feels extremely rigid and "safe" lol

I found that all the brackets that I bought made the seats too low for me. I finally bolted them to the stock seat tracks. (non power) On the drivers side I can still move the seat forward and back, and rock it up and down. Is it the lightest? No. It works great for a street car. On the pass side I disassembled the stock track and mounted the seat to it. I found the brackets made the seat sit too far forward. Hence Steve fixing them. I do have a brace on the back of thedrivers seat attached to the roll bar

x2 There's no point in running an after market seat with seat brackets unless you have a cage to tie the back of the seat into. It's just unsafe. In the event (god forbid) you get rear ended, or smack a wall, the seat brackets would not hold up on their own. Safety First!

Not to mention what is the point? If you're not using the seat for racing purposes why would you want to go to something that will be very uncomfortable for daily driving or even weekend driving? I've got a Kirkey, and I love it for drag racing, but driving around on the road with it would suck... Get a Corbeau or something like that if the car doesn't see the strip enough to even warrant a cage.
As for safety, all the bracketry and the seat itself is aluminum, it has to be braced to some solid steel.
