Default A few weight reduction questions.

I guess first off, what is this thing?

It is on the front passenger side.

I'm assuming this is for the airbags, so I can just yank that out right?

Also I'm doing ABS delete, can I just go back as far as I feel like digging for the wires and clip them off? I'm not cutting any kind of shared connections then right?

What is this computer looking deal on the driver side? BCM? I take it I can't get rid of this I'm thinking, not sure though.

I guess my next question is, is this the firewall mat I've heard mentioned before?

Or is there something behind the dash?

Also going to be installing ozite, do people delete this padding also around the trans tunnel? How much weight lost vs. extra heat, or will you not feel heat there from the transmission?

Sorry for all the questions, I only feel like digging into all this stuff once. I was going to completely de-wire anything I took out, but that looks like a nightmare, so I figure I'll snip things back as far as I feel like digging the harness out. I'm supposed to be getting my motor back tomorrow I think, so I'm ready to drive the thing again, not take a week deleting wires completely.

Edit: Opps forgot a question.

I've seen these diagonal pieces cut out before, this makes no structural difference then? If not I'm gonna cut them out also, please let me know.

1 vac canister for the HVAC vent
2 yellow plug is airbag stuff normally. No idea on the older LT1 cars what that is for sure
3 thats cruise.
4 ya its one of the 1st thing on the car so all the stuff in bolted thu it under the dash. pedals,HAVC. ect ditch it for weight

5 ya, if you wnat to grt light remove that. there stuff like that all over. behind most panels, under the carpet, on flat spots in the back.

on abs. if you remove it ya you can trace back in cut the wires out.

Wow so all the ABS wiring goes back to inside the car? Here I assumed the thick wires were going to go to the relay box. So is there an ABS computer inside somewhere then that all those wires terminate at?

Thanks! So yeah keeping HVAC so I won't mess with that canister then, also keeping cruise, so I won't disturb it or its wiring.

Yeah I'm guessing it is for the airbags, I don't see any other kind of sensor up front or anything, and the airbag module I removed from behind the shifter also had the yellow harness clip.

There is a box under the dash, that is directly above the dead-pedal. Every wire to and from it is No longer needed if you ditch the abs.
I ditched abs, cruise, air bags (well, everything buy the Drivers bag) HVAC and power steering. You'd be suprised how much all that cleans up under the hood, and dash.
I'd say I removed 8lbs of just wiring out of the car, and I didn't remove every wire from the HVAC either (got too frustrated trying to undo the harness around the column.)

Removing all the wiring really helps with rerouting it if you want to do the wire tuck mod. I've hidden every wire under the hood of my formula, it was a lot of work, but well worth it.

that armrest metal isn't there for nothin, GM dosn't just do stuff like thatfor nothing you know. A lot of guys remove it, I did when I went to a rollbar. It looks like it braces the rear of the door latch to the frame rail, for a side hit. But with the rollbar hoop right there, the door bar, and seat bar of the rollcage. I htink it would be stronger? So thats up to you, same thing on removing the stock door bars inside the door on a car you street drive.

Yeah if I didn't have the roll bar I wouldn't be thinking of cutting it out. I do plan on getting the stock door bars out also, but that might be a week or two from now. Right now trying to sort out my ABS delete mess I have going on, before my motor gets back to me.

Mighty Whitey, the box can come out too then also? Nothing runs through it to other systems in the car?

Thanks again everyone, while I'm taking some stuff out, it is still my daily driver in FL so sadly the A/C won't be going anywhere. Perhaps someday when I get my Silverado back up and running I'll really go crazy with removing wiring. Right now though my thought process is get this thing back on the road at least in a drivable state.

So what is the best way to get this stuff out?

Or maybe a better question is it worth my time to get it out? Naturally I do for sure want to get rid of what is left of the rear seat brackets before I lay the ozite down. Which does anyone have good directions for ozite? I ordered 4 yards of the stuff, how is the best way to initially lay it out? Do I cut the roll in half and split down the center or have like a front piece and back piece?

Have most people removed these, does the velcro and the clothes hanger thing up top retain the sail panels fine or have you left this and kept the seat back bolts in?

Also is this seam sealer doing anything or is it just randomly slung all over at the factory?

I refrained from chopping those out as well when I had me interior out and was grinding, chopping, and drilling.

I dunno, they just looked key to safety in the event of a side impact. No cage here yet.

I used a stepped drill bit to cut out those spot welds. If I penetrated the floor, I sealed it with silicone. You could weld any holes shut as well.

I believe there is a special bit for removing spot welds.
