Default Question about expansion tanks???

My radiator is mounted lower than i was wanting to, and know ive been told i will need a expansion tank to fill it, and to release any air inside the cooling system. Im running -16 to and from my motor to my radiator. Question is how exactly do i route the lines for the expansion tank, and what tank would work exactly. Here is my build thread, it has pictures of the setup. Thanks

Good question. I'll be anxious to see how many different answers come up.

I built my own expansion tank. Need a setup that doesn't have a cap on the radiator (I think). I used some spare 4" aluminum tubing to build a tank. welded a -10 on the bottom of the expansion tank and on top of one of the end tanks of the radiator. I then ran a -10 from the tank to the radiator. On the vent lines coming from the crossover tubes on the heads, I ran a -4 line from those back to the side of the expansion tank.

my tank:

The radiator setup I have sitting here is the same deal that Brian built. Small radiator with -an lines to and from the motor, pump is on the radiator itself. There's a -8 line that will run from the radiator to the expeansion tank, one line off that under the cap that will run to the overflow bottle, and a port on the expansion tank to let the steam lines from the engine run back to as well. Should work out good.

I got my expansion tank form Mezlere. It has a cap, AN 8 at the bottom that I ran to the inlet of the pump and AN 4 about 2/3 up the side that I ran to heads vent crossover line, and over fill to a overfill tank.
Works great!

I'd close it off and run the cap up high...thats the purpose of an expansion tank anyway

How about if i tig up the radiator cap, and run the -8 to the former cap location. Would that work good? Wial im welding up ****, should i remove the overflow hose barb piece as well? Just make it have the in/out for the pump. So that way everything else in on the expansion tank.

thats how mine is. welding the -8 at the old cap location is fine. you want it high as possible in the radiator.
