Default Which Tire

What' s the best of those 2, considering 2 issues.
1) I'm aware of the Hoosier Street driving warning, I will be driving only to and from the track in dry weather.
2) Traction at the strip.

I would think the Hoosier because of the higher sidewall and softer compound.
But the Mickeys contact patch is 1.5" wider so?

Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial II
P315/35R17 on 17x11" wheel
OR
Hoosier Quick time Pro DOT
26x11.50-15LT on 15x10" wheel

Thanks for your opinions.

6-speed or auto? I say MT for an auto, Hoosiers for a stick

All slicks(DOT or not) are not for hiway use. Yet people drive them on the road all the time. You already unerstand minimal, dry street use only so you will be fine no matter what you decide.

You are best of with a bias tire on a stick. The QTP is a good tire.

with being a 6 sped any 17in RADIAL shouldnt even be in the equation. Hoosier is the way to go, and if you do want to try a radial, try the hoosier radial. they are awsome.

It is all over that bias is best with a stick car. I know sometimes it is hard to find but that is the main reason why few respond.

It is plain and simple. Radials are not very forgiving and the hard hit of the clutch makes it VERY difficult to make radials hook. Then if you do get them to hook and work they don't gain you much at all over a bias that you can slap on an kick *** from day one. I have seen some guys do side by side comparisons and they genearly gain 1-2 MPH and drop a tenth or two with a radial over a bias. Some have gained more but not often.

The point is that you spend all this money and time trying to get a radial to work most often and the reward is a nickel for your troubles.

hoosier qtp's... I have run them for 3 years now, and they hook great... I drive them on the street too with a spool, aside from scuffing, they are fine for going to/from the track.

Can I run the bias Hoosier on the back and the radial Nitto I have on front? I thought you weren't suppose to mix bias with radial?

thanks for the responses,
Ed

not supposed to, radial rear/bias front is worse...

That being said, I have a radial front/bias rear.

I have a high 11 second 6speed turd. I was running 26x11.5x15 Hoosier qtps out back with kuhmo power stars up front and didnt have a problem on the street or track. Once the rear tire pressure is dropped around 12psi then I got a lil swaying at 100mph+ on the track.

As far as the Hoosiers go, Im running a MWC 9" spooled and she went thru the tires in about 5 months. Some street driving and too/from the track. Maybe4-5k miles and they were done.

My best 60' on the hoosiers was 1.61 at around 13psi front shocks set at 2 rears set at 50/50

Once those tires became bald, I went to a full slick. M/T ET Drag stiffwalls and holy hell they hook a ton better than the Hoosiers did for me.

Best 60' on the ET Drags 1.52 @ 16psi and the car felt alot more stable down the strip.

I bais on the rear and a radial Skinny on the front it ok but a radial 275 or larger makes the car VERY hard to drive it will sway ALOT

but other wise a Bias ply tire is MUCH easier to hook with a 6 speed car

Ive found the opposite, as I 60'd 1.42-1.44 on qtp's, and 1.5's on mt's. Depends on the car and suspension setup...

hoosiers! for m6. I drive to and from the track (150 miles one way) on them, no issues. just make sure the weather is not calling for rain.

QTP's with the M6. I drive them about 25 miles to the track. You can tell they are on there though. I even got rained out one night at the track. The trip home was not as bad as I thought it would be. Just kept it under 50-55mph. Def. not recommended but managable. Ken

Ok,i tried m/t tires and hoosier quick times too. The hoosier hooked better then m/t on my m6 car. NOW,The tire that really hooks is the M&h Racemaster cheeter slick. This tire out hooked both tires by a long shot on my car. I cut 1.42 60's in a 3,700llbs car on a 26x11.5x15 cheeter slick and 1.3 on the spray. At 15psi i pull the wheels and go at 6,500rpm's with no spin. I always drive the 30mi to and from the track on them and 200mi or more a year for street racing. I buy a new set every three or four years, they last. and are the best tire i have ever used. www.intercotire.com Like i said, they out hooked both the others big time on my car.
