Default DASHBOARD: Whats REALLY back behind there?

I'm working on finishing my motor and all for my little car, and I'm ready to start pulling weight out! BUT I have a delima.... I'm from the south... I'm a BIG boy... and I want to keep the car on the roads some and man I can't deal without having AC.

so what all could I get rid of besides the a/c stuff? or would even be worth me pulling for maybe 4-5 wires?

other than a/c, and radio I wanna get rid of everything else I can while keeping the interior looking stock. I might even go to the extent of grinding extra length off of bolts! lol

I know I'm wanting the cake and eating it too... but my goal of 3100 w/ the iron block motor w/out me can't be that unrealistic.

don't waste your time if you aren't going to get rid of it all

If you wanna ditch your airbags, pull the dash. I deleted the bags and cleaned the wiring up. But, I wouldnt pull the dash just to try to shave wire weight.

There's a bunch of stuff you can remove when you pull the dash:

1) heavy sound deadening mat on firewall (about 10 lbs)

2) air bags (passenger one w/ the bracket is almost 15 lbs)

3) excess wiring (I pulled 6-7 lbs of it)

4) dash brace (4-5 lbs)

5) you could start cutting the metal out behind it (I removed about 5 lbs but didn't go all the way forward)

6) seam sealer and rubber mat right under the dash pad

You pulled 6 pounds of wiring? Thats gotta be a guesstimate. Maybe if you ditched all the power options in the doors, and the radio.

Im just sayin, I stripped a lot but it wasnt nearly that much.

That's right, 6 lbs on an accurate calibrated scale and that's only the wiring under the dash. Guys who have stripped all the unnecessar wiring (rear and engine compartment) have gotten 25 lbs out.

Look at post #71 in my thread, the brace that holds the dash. A lot of guys on here have done the same thing.
