Default Racers: ~114mph trap speed but only 12.54?

Hi all,

Ive got a couple questions about racing my C5. Ive got a 01 C5 vert with a 6 speed, 3:42 rear gears and about 400rwhp. Ive only raced it once and had a best of 12.54 with a 1.961 60 foot time and a trap of 113.78 mph. Im on street tires and lowered the air pressure.

Now it is very apparent that I am not the best at getting the car off the line, I haven't raced in 10+ years.

The mph seems to suggest I have a high 11 potential in it. I was hoping to hear about how some of you guys launch your car or what suspension tweaks you did to help your launch.

Thanks!!

114 mph will get you 11s with a set of slicks or drag radials. You need too be in the 1.60 60 ft range for 11s.

Automatics are faster than sticks on the street and at the track...

A tire is gonna help you the most. You will probably be hard pressed to cut a better short time than 1.96 on street tires. Get some Drag Radials and see what she can do.

No kidding, I thought that was a pretty bad 60' foot time, even for a stick. Im going to try some drag radials next time I go.

A bias cheater slick will help you better being a stick car. It absorbs the shock wile the radial doesn't.

There are quite a few threads on tips to launch a 6-speed that could help you lower the e.t.s

Congrats. Good pass considering that you have not been at the track in such a long time. These cars are more difficult to launch with the IRS and it take a considerable amount of practice using the right techniques. (More on this later.) An 11 second pass with only a 113 trap speed will be extremely difficult in a manual Vette; however, with great track prep and a good DA, you can realize your goal.

Agreed. A high 11 is attainable given your advice and trap speed.

That depends on who is driving the stick.

Agreed. Tires are very important especially if the track is not well prepped. Depending on the street tires, low to high 1.7s are possible but 1.8s are more likely.

I have ran both DRs and slicks. Both have produced excellent results. If the OP does not wish to purchase separate bias ply skinnies for the front, the DR is really the only option. At his power level, a Hoosier 275x40x17 will work very well. If slicks and skinnies are chosen, it will be easier to attain a better 60'

This will get the OP started.
