Cool Taking out the Rubber stuff in trunk area

I was bored today and decided to try to take out the rubber stuff in the trunk area. I found that a putty knife and a torch work perfect. Just heat the rubber up and scrap it off, not as bad as I thought. Here's a couple pics:

This was just a small bit

I will see tomorrow what it all weighs. I didn't get it all out tonight.

It doesn't do anything in my opinion.

I started scraping some of this crap off today with a putty knife and I was ready to kill someone. Never thought about using a torch...

Not for weight though.. just wanted to get it out and clean up the trunk.

I started with a razor blade on a scraper and said "**** this", then I said "this **** is rubber and fire melts rubber" so i went and grabbed the ol' torch and went to work. It was alot easier than a razor blade.

I took 18lbs of seam sealer off my car with multiple wire wheels. Made a BIG mess doing it, but it was a good bit of weight. And I still have a bunch I can't get to until the cage gets cut out. Crazy how much that stuff weigh's when you really get to taking it all out.

Take thet sound deadener off the bottom of the t top well. Wait until you see how heavy that crap is.

Yup wire wheel in my dewalt drill. That poor drill is getting tired LOL. By the time I'm done getting the seam sealer out, and done with the 3 inch hole saw.. I don't think it's gonna be worth much if anything. Maybe I will try sending it back to Dewalt, see if they will rebuild it

But yes, a drill. I bought a variety of different sized wire wheels, as you'll need a couple to get into all the corners, etc. Crap flies everywhere too, but it does a good job of cleaning it off and not messing the metal up underneath. Just have to wipe it clean with some prep-all, and spray it with whatever to seal the metal back up... should work out good.

I also pulled my dash last week and pulled ALL the a/c crap out from behind there. I wonder how much all that stuff weighs?
I pulled the
Radio
A/C head unit
A/C vents
Metal Frame behind dash
Knee panel
Glove Box
Center Console
Air Bag
Rear radio amplifier
Shock sensor
Airbag module
shifter ****

Now my car weighed 2980lbs with all the above still in my car, I havent been back to the scales since I pulled this stuff out. I am sooooo curious what it weighs now.

I hear ya about the DeWalt drill, I have had mine for 8 years now and never been rebuilt, It has been through hell and back and still kicks. I love it.

Listen to this, talking about drills, my buddy job gave all there crews a big duffel bag of milwaukee tools and impacts. He brought them home one day and we were taking the lugnuts of our camaro's with this 1/4 impact driver, no joke. It is the new 18V ones. Also we used the 1/2" impact driver and it was even stronger. Ill post a pic of them

Milwaukee makes pretty good stuff. There was a time when they're power tools weren't all that great, but in recent years they have gotten alot better.

My last job I had a bunch of dewalt 12 volt drills and they were great, battery life was good, they were pretty light and took a beating. The guys totally disrespected those things and they took it and just kept on running.

My Dewalt that's dying, is about 10 years old I'd guess.. I've taken an entire deck, held together with 3 inch screws apart with it... as well as a million other projects. It's seen better days. And, cutting sheet metal with a 3 inch hole saw.. it didn't like that much LOL. After about 4 holes I could smell the heat coming out of it. So what did I do? Proceed to cut 36 more holes after that And I wonder why it's getting tired!

Senical, get a heat gun and a small putty knife and get that stuff out of there. That crap is heavy... it's nothing more then sound deadening material.
