Default How much will weight affect et

Hey guys getting ready for the US Nationals at Indy wondering if you guys could help me out. I know you guys lighten your cars up on here like crazy was wondering if anyone has had some hands on experience of what 170 pounds will slow a car down or pick it up if you took it out.I haven't meesed with weight all that much.

My thinking is I always run C/S which has min weight of 3245 11.35 index.
I was maybe gonna move up to D/S with a min weight of 3415 and an index of 11.50. If your not familiar with stock eliminator its how fast can you go under your index basically. Will 170 pounds slow the car down .17 or not thats my question. I'm thinking not because I can put it all in the trunk so it will help the hook too. Last year at Indy it took .744 under the index to get in I have not made it yet, they only take 128 cars, though my car has been .84 under in 1650 da weather my theory is if I go to D/S is there a couple of hundreths there maybe . My guess is I will only lose maybe .13 from 170 pounds just a guess who knows, if so that would put me farther under in D/S than C/S hard to explain hope you understand?? Hope you guys can share some weight experiences.

Thanks Tim

Ouch! 170 is a lot but you won't know until you do the experiment. If you are sure you can't compete in C/S you may as well give D/S a try. Good luck.

The weight alone should be a push in et. If your car does not work perfect in "C" then adding the weight could help you change to a better balance.........
Indy is a tough crowd. How many cars would be in class?

The car works decent in C ,but not always perfect I'm thinking in D it will work all the time there fore maybe helping the et, it is gonna be tough to get in usually 3-4 cars in the same class for class runoff. My main concern is just trying to qaulify its gonna be tough. Was thinking 170 pounds wouldn't be the full .17 but more like .13 but just dont have the time to try it with no track here anymore. I've gone fast enough to get in ,but the weather there usually isn't the best. Just trying to go there with the best combo I got lol.

All depends if your gearing is optimized for C. I would not make the change unless you have run it at D weight.

Ice the crap out of it, put in the right oil and give it a shot.

I think the 170lbs will cost you little better than .15 and putting all the weight in the rear will surely require some suspension tweaking and you may not be able to keep that nose down.
If it's gonna work you'll need a track day to work it out.
I've seen that Pinks episode-your car looked great!

Did you try this calculator? It works pretty good for sprung weight.

Thanks for all the replies.

Was wondering if anyone has actually lost say 100 pounds(or any weight actually) and ran the car the same day or same da and what they saw in et diff. Just trying to get a better idea on a mid 10 car at 3400 pounds.

Thanks

120# is roughly .1 at those ETs. Your guess of .13 sounds right on to me.

This is talking of two different cars from my experience, one slightly heavier and one slightly lighter... Both running bottom-low 11s.

Stick a fat guy in your car, or run with a 170lb passenger if they'll let you. Easy way to get your answer

I don't think I have ever taken that much out at a track day, but I know we've pulled about 75 out, and saw a car pick up .06 worth and about .5 mph. We ripped the seat and a couple other quck things off in about 15 min @ the end of the day.. car never cooled off, track was closing in 1/2 an hour and we wanted one more shot.

This was with an 11 second car. Usually we do thist type of thing at home.. but we were really trying to get that 10.99 slip.

170 lbs, I don't know with that. But if you have the ability to put it anywhere, and have a day to play with ballast location, then I think you could make it work.

Gearing would be the one thing I think may need adjustment. if you're on a 4.30 you may need the 4.56, or 4.71 from a 4.56 or whatever you're running

170 lbs, I think you will see
