In what sense... the cost of the car or the cost of the crew + transportation exp.

Curious on which end your talking about, or are you asking as a whole?

Also what level of racing. Local events or a Pro style setup.

Just throwing it out there...

^Agreed.

When you can afford to call Diamond Pistons up and buy a 50 sets of pistons as a "Test Batch" and if it does not "work" just toss them out, then you know you can "afford" to run a team. That's not even getting to sponsor involvement.

.

I don't run a Pro class, but I spend 10's of thousands per year.
Not only $100+ in diesel, $50+ in race fuel, $40+ in nitrous, $50-300 entry plus food, drink, lost work, wear & tear on the truck, trailer, racecar etc per each event!!
That doesn't even count building a team, racecar, truck, trailer, equipment, parts, etc etc.

No offense, but anyone that asks such a silly ?? with zero information probably can't do it!!
What series?? What class?? What combination??

I think that you really need to name the class that you are thinking of and the series that you plan to run.

A Pro team? Millions upon Millions. I think this is a interesting thread http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=426995 Thats just to build a car. I couldnt afford to run it twice down the track let alone transport it and maintain it

I built this car^^^^ in 2005 and had $90,000 in it. It had a aluminum 632 big chief motor with 2 systems. It ran 4.30s 1/8 mile. Plus another $10,000 in spare parts. And $80,000 in a truck and trailer. Now add $600 -$800 for each trip to the track if you dont break anything!! Very expensive!!!

Exactly, I bought a used Pro-Mod, and had over $75,000 into it before I ever even fired it up.
That was using a bunch of stuff from one of my other racecars also.
Then a nice, almost new truck, nice bigger trailer, tow vehicle, spares, equipment, misc. etc etc.
I'm a little slow guy and I probably have $200,000 in my Top Sportsman team, and that doesn't count my other 3 cars.

You can go cheaper getting used stuff but I wanted to build a car the way I wanted it. Hell I had 40 grand in a trailer so my wife didnt have to use the track bathroom. Racing at any level is expensive now a days. Its worse than crack!!!

I had around $25,00 in my s10. Had a small block on 1 kit and was backhalved. I did all the work myself to paint and body, cage work, etc. I did grudge racing and it went in the 5.70's. Every trip to the track was $200 just to test. Spark plugs, race fuel, fuel in truck, nitrous, entry etc. I played with it for a while, but realized that if I wanted go faster more nitrous was in order then the risk of breakage. Street cars are more fun and cheaper. You break less parts.

Top fuel/Funny Car racing cost $30,000 each race. This is of course if nothing breaks (which never happens). I was talking to a Top Alcohol Funny Car racer and he stated that it cost him $10,000 each race if nothing breaks. Then you have all of the start up expenses, chassis, motor, body......Well you get my point.

Stock gets expensive quick because of all the restrictions. Unless you know the ins and outs of how to make that type of car work, and make power with the motor you are utilizing within those restrictions, you can have 35-45k in a competitive stocker pretty easily.

I'm not sure how much truth there was to this but there are a couple of cars from Bowling Green, Ky that supposedly have a little over $50,000 in the motor alone! These are superstock cars, not stock.
