Bald Nitto's hook better??
I have a set of Nitto Drag radials that are almost bald in the middle and have some treads on the outsides. Will they still hook at the track?? I don't use them on the streets. They are for track only.

1) hook on teh street while driving daily
2) get 15-20K miles out of their nitto drag radials.

No BALD Nittos Hook alot worse then Treaded Nittos on the street.....as for the track they are probably almost good.
I have gone through a couple sets of Nitto 315 DRs...I know for sure that when the middle gets bald they start spinning more, and the more the tread disapears towards the outside of the tire the more they spin.
The best IMO is a newer set of nittos that have been broken in for a couple weeks.

I ran 23-24 in my 275/40's and they still wore some in the middle. I have been running about 18-20 in my 315's(on an 17x9) to keep a flat patch and they have about 6K on them and they seem to be perfectly worn........ which they are very worn b/c I put a HELLA beating on em at the track... but im still not on the indicators.

My gauge must be off then I would figure @ 18-20psi mine would wear to the outside compared to your 25psi. Weird

I've pulled many a 1.5 60ft on Nittos and I can tell you this from alot of experience with them. They SUCK AZZ when they're bald. No big deal if you're pulling 1.7-1.8s on a descent track, but anything quicker than that...forget it.

Oh, and to make 'em wear correctly, you need rims that are wide enough for them and set the pressure at about 25-28 psi depending on the tire and wheel used. If the rim is too narrow, it's just about impossible to get the edges to wear as quickly as the middle.
I run 11" rims with my 315/35/17s. For 275/40s I'd go with 10" rims or at the very least 9".
