1st track time's for WS6 M6
Hey all,
Well I went to HRP for the first time yesterday night. Here's the details:
Weather
66F, 100% humidity, 30.24 in. barometric press., wind 5mph ESE
Car:
Bone stock except for Zed style cutout. I dyno'd 333rwhp with a lid and the cutout, but I had the stock lid back on for the track. Tires were at 25psi rear, 40psi front. TCS off, of course.
Results
R/T 0.782
60' 2.316
330 6.133
1/8 9.159
MPH 81.74
1000 11.735
1/4 13.909
MPH 103.76
Not all that impressive. I was really hoping for more like 13.5 or less. I think my MPH is high enough to support a 13.5 but I must not be launching well. My buddy has an auto that dyno'd a bit lower than me and he ran a 13.5 at 104MPH.
Do I just suck at launching and shifting, or does this time seem about right?
As an aside, I ran a viper heads up to the 1.8th mile, at which point he promptly left me
Thanks,
Russ

Just to comfort you a bit, my very first pass in my '03 Cobra was only a 13.6 @ 106mph. That was also my very first pass in an M6. It'll run low 11's with the windows down now. The moral of the story is practice, practice, practice (and mods).
To be brutally honest, your driving needs alot of work. A powershifted/speedshifted '02 WS6 should trap 107-108mph. A 2.0 60' would give you a 13.45 ET on that run. I would imagine that a set of DR's and good driving could get you a 12.6 @ 109mph with the 333rwhp you're putting down. That's on the extreme side a bit, but it's possible.
Good luck!

Thanks!
yeah, I knew my driving sucked, but I don't plan on powershifting anytime soon I do need to practice on my shifts though. They didn't feel tooooo slow, but with the stock shifter you really can't shift all that fast.
Thanks for the heads up on the 60ft time reduction!

Your 60' time is where a LOT of your time can be made up....your 2.31 indicates to me that there was tire spin. Yeah you're right about the speed. Your car was trying to make up for lost time at the starting line, and your MPH indicates that when compared with your e.t.
Keep practicing....I'm ready for my third season of racing, and I'm still learning. What really matters is if your having a good time.....

I did have a great time! The only problem was that it was spring break so there were a TON of people there. It was 30 minutes between runs I would have loved to have gotten more passes to work on my launch. I'll see if I can't post a video of the last run to see if you guys think there was a lot of tire spin, or just to critique my technique in general.

Not bad for your first time out. My very first run in my C5 was a 13.5, it takes time to learn how to handle a vehicle. With stock tires I think you should be able to reach a 2.1 60' with out too much difficulty. work with your launch RPM, for me 1200 rpm works best. I still have the factory runflat Goodyears so I still fight for traction even at this low rpm. Get a new shifter TODAY! The factory unit is not worth a crap for track use. I just swapped the original shifter in my C5 to a B&M Ripper and its great. If you want the best times possible I think that a new shifter and some DR's out back will dip you into the 12's easily.

Yeah,
I think that if I can get my 60' time down to 2.1 or so I should be pushing 13.5ish. I did have a hard time getting off the line with the stock tires. Of course I do have 27,000 miles on em
I'll be sure to post back when I get a helmet and make it back to the track.

I just went to the track Saturday and got my best run ever.

It is all about the launch I borrowed a friends comp t/a's and they helped tremendously. I am launching around 2000, but when I was on stock tires I was launching at 1300. Stock tires suck ***, and cannot get stickey. I should be able to drop my 60's to around 1.8 (hopefully) with some practice. And thats what you should do. I dont condone going out on a crowded street and practice, rather a deserted SAFE backroad that wont kill you. Just practice your launching and go from there.

I could only wish for a track in Southern California where I have ONLY 30 minutes between runs. Hell, at california speedway you can run the 1/4 and have enough time before your next run for a complete rear end and clutch swap.

The weather was 66* 100% humidity and 30.24 barometer?
Jeez, and people say we got good weather up here on the East coast.
Bro, you're definetly shifting way too slow or your clutch is sliping. With the kind of power you're making you should be running 108+ mph, with the stock lid. My 02 Z28 hasn't been on a dyno yet, but I've run 13.1 at 113 2.25 60' with a lid, catback, free ram air and no screen in the MAF. I was powershifting the car.
Let someone else, someone who's a good stick driver (not saying you're not), make a couple of passes at the track next time. Just for comparison.

I did the same think my first time to the track. I dyno very close to your car 330 rwhp and 345 rwtq. That being said I think it's possible that you have a lot of room for improvement.
1) get the 60' down you should get 2.1 or less without a problem
2) make sure that you are not short shifting. I got a shift light and picked up 3mph especially on the 3-4 shift.
3) put the lid back on...
Have fun. I wish I could 60' too.

I don't think that 100% humidity was doing you any favors.
BTW, I ran the time in the sig a couple days ago on a basically stock car. Mine is a '98 though, so there's no way I'm making the 333 RWHP that you are. You just need practice and better conditions.
