I never use the mid plate but I just built a car with a motor plate and the stock accessories. I just made spacers and everything worked.

how did you space the crank? did your motor plate not connect to the wp/front cover/heads?

Trans bolts are no harder than without a mid plate. You can pull everything as a single assembly too.

If you set the motor and mid plate up with the bolts front and back evenly spaced, you can hook up an engine hoist to the motor, after pulling the trans crossmember and driveshaft and lower the motor down say 2 inches, if you space the bolts right. You can then bolt the motor back up, and have alot of access to the trans bolts.

Another trick is a stud in the back of the block so when you pull the trans you just take the nuts off, then the plate doesn't want to move, motor doesn't want to slide in the plate (had this happen once when pulling a trans on a motor/mid plated car, kind of a pita) and putting the trans back on is easy, you have all the studs there to help you line it all up again.

And, you can take it all out as one piece if you have the room (cowl cut, upper radiator support cut, etc)

Man, I'm sorry! I had a total brain fart. It didn't hit me that you were probably talking about an LSX motor. I never deal with them so I wasn't thinking. Sorry again!

I've never had any problems pulling a trans with a mid plate installed. long extension (36') and a swivel.

Space the crank for what? The converter can be built for the midplate or you can space the flexplate. What front accessories will you run?

Have the water pump and alt bracket milled down the thickness of the plate. Simple.
