Can someone briefly explain why a powerglide is appropriate for this car? My understanding has been that a pg works best in lightweight, high-hp cars.

I guess 3100lbs isnt Light?? FWIW our 2980lb race weight Gbody picked up 3 tenths with the 406sbc just from switching to a powerglide over the TH350

406 is probly making around 450-475bhp.

This is very surprising and interesting to me, a manual transmission guy. The torque converter must be doing some magic I don't know about.

Just stop, Don Fezel just ran his cobra jet to a 8.975 last weekend at the NHRA race. Thats a far cry from a 8.2 1/8th time. Bolt on f-bodies run faster than that.

Used the same converter in both the TH350 and Glide for our car. The Powerglide also had more MPH and close to the same 60' time.

FYI the glide we run is a "Turbo Glide" basically a powerglide with a TH350 Main. So we can run the EXACT same Torque converter in both Trans setups.


Im pretty sure the Glide is less parasitic and about 40-60lbs less than the TH350.
