Default High compression SBE experiment

Thought I would post up my build for some of you to check out. First off, I dont care if you think im an idiot for doing it, I dont give a **** if you think it wont work, so dont bother with the negative comments

Anyway I wanted to build a motor that I had been kickin around in my head for quite awhile, and if it didnt work I had no one to blame but myself. I did run it for a bit today and took it up to 6800 a few times and havent had any problems, but I know its ******* tight in there!

I had to pull the trans and had a light weep from the pass side headgasket, had most of the parts laying around so I went for it.

Removed the drivetrain

Pulled the heads

Then I stopped taking pics, phone went dead!

Flycut the pistons as far as I dared, about 0.130 intake and exhaust

Heads are ported 243s that have been MILLED .125 or so
224cc intake
78.5cc exhaust
46.75cc chambers
Brian Tooley platinum dual springs with Titanium retainers
Ferrea 6000 series valves
GM .051" MLS gasket
stock rockers with Comp trunion upgrade
7.300" pushrods with .042 preload
Ebay headstuds (awesome BTW)

Cam is a EPS 236/248 .615" on a 111+3 installed straight up. Piston to valve is tight as ****, I came in at about .035-.040 on the intake and .040-.050 on the exhaust.

Finished it up today and it works! compression is right about 13:1 and Im running E85 and have to use the LS1 intake till winter when it will get a vic jr and 4150 throttle body. Car also has BBK 1 3/4 headers and Borla adjustable catback. 104mm lid ported throttle body and 1-bar SD.

I just got it running and have to pull the trans again but will be putting up a vid shortly and hope to have it done again this weekend. Also will be checking cranking compression which will be pretty high my small battery has a struggle to turn it over now. Will keep this thread updated! feel free to ask questions

I like your style! I'm hoping to get in to an 11.8-12:1 stock short block setup over the winter, I only wish I could get 13:1!

Let see what she ends up doing...

Have only pushed around 12.4:1 here with .120 cuts...

Made 525rwhp with my setup and 497rwhp with 12.4:1 243 headed setup...

thanks chris, the car runs great, drove it around all weekend in 100* high humidity with the AC blasting the whole time, Im on my 3rd tank of E85 with the new setup already. Its going to really leave alot on the table until I get the intake changed but the tq from 3500-5000 is simply crazy. I forgot to post up some vids I took in this thread, still working on getting it tuned in some but its close enough to drive around for now, gotta order a new wideband. Cant run more than 22-23* timing in this heat, IATs are 120+ most of the time

Finally got to the track with my new tires

stock bottom end
EPS cam 238/246 .607/.609 111+3
243s ported by me, milled to 46.8cc (.135" or so)
PTC 10"LS1 1.8 STR, 3800 stall
stock trans
10-bolt with 4.10s (a little louder after 5 1.6x 60's)
all suspension is stock except for ST lowering springs and relocation brackets
Darkstars with 295/65-15 mickeys

Still running the stock LS1 intake manifold, which is KILLING it. Just dead above 5500, man I need to put a victor on it

1.62
7.28@95
11.41@120

I think with a single plane and TB, and a set of 1 7/8 headers it would trap 125-128 and go 10's pretty easy. this intake has to be hurting me 30whp at least

The intake probably doesn't even fit anymore milling 1/8" off the heads. That's a freaking ton. The port alignment has to be off. If that was a SBC/BBC intake it wouldn't of come close to bolting back on without a lot of work. I'd check into the port alignment and see where it's at.

Stock size valves, I smoothed the chambers and blended them in after I took that pic, that pic is at 46cc

The intake fits just fine, I milled it accordingly to get it to match up

you should have checked the weight of those values over the stocks. you have 10 maybe 20hp in a better VJ, and blending for what you have like that. even with that valve and that ported runner

I think you'd a genius.. I have a similar setup only diff is, non ported 317's milled. .100 and I'm already running s single plane on a lQ9.. Haven't gotten to track yet but made 450rw through a 400 on pump gas and 26* I expect it to run well.. As yours will.. Think outside the box it's the way to go... Nice job!!!

Illusional:
yeah I saw your build on the bullet (i think) and i was like "hey thats pretty similar to mine" That super and 4500 must be working to get that through a stock 317 runner

Funny last night my buddy said after I left the track everybody was
"BULLSHIT GARY'S GOT NITROUS!!"
I just had to laugh at that, we have some pretty serious LSx stuff up here lately so its getting fun, not uncommon to see 2 turbo LSx cars side by side a couple times a day it seems, hell I think thats 25% of the people at the track now

On another note, Im very torn on throwing the turbo I have on this and seeing if the heads will stay down on 10#. See how the winter goes Im done for the year gotta work the next month straight then its gonna snow!
