Default Running slicks on the street?

I know it's illegal but has anyone done this before? How was the traction on the street compared to the strip? Obviously it's not going to be as good as a prepped drag strip. I was just curious too see if anyone has done this for some stop light grudge races. Or if anyone who has pulled the front wheels at the strip was able to pull them on the street with slicks.

asphalt will **** up slicks if you launch on it, only launch on concrete (ie bridges etc). personally i hook harder on good drag radials on the street than i do on slicks

Ive ran with cheater slicks, the ones with groves to be dot approved. I hooked pretty well for not heating them up, at least better than my drag radials

They recover quick if the spin. I used them on the street. They will wear out quick.

Can anyone confirm this? Sounds compleatly insane but you never know.

I ran my DOT slicks on the street and hooked well. My truck was only running high 13s but it would dead hook with a tiny burnout to clean them off.

which parts sounds insane, asphalt tearing them up or concrete hooking better?

theres a reason the best tracks are all concrete and pretty much all tracks have concrete launch pads

I didn't know that. The few tracks I've been to have all been asphalt. I thought they all were.

I was just looking to mess around with some friends on the weekends. I thought it would be cool to pull the front wheels at a stoplight. It pulls the fronts about a foot at the track. I'd like to see if this was possible on the street with slicks. I may have to experiment and report back.

I ran a 454 camaro with my h/c/i m6 car with a set of 26" et street bias plys. It definately hooked better than a street tire but I still managed to be peddling the car in 3rd gear. We raced uphill lol.

Slicks were all I ever had for my TA up until this year and they had a lot of cruising time on them... I never had any trouble with them and they recovered fast if I did spin. My car hated radials on all surfaces.

I spin at 60 with slicks, and never been able to hook from a dig. At the track, the car will dead hook.

I definatley want to hear how this goes LOL.

I've had friends run slicks on the street for small cruises and make an hour drive to the track. I would not have recommended it but after a good burnout to clean the tires off there was no real issue.

Hit the slicks with some Pimp Juice before the run and you will be happy...

Never heard of asphalt tearing up slicks. I don't see how that could happen.
I have been running bias ply cheaters on my ride for some time now. Many launch's on asphalt with no issues.
Maybe the asphalt in your part of the country has broken glass in it?

From experience, the colder mix type of asphalt definitely tore up my slicks on the Plymouth. I ran slicks exclusively on that car (30x10x15 Goodyears) on the street. The car handled fine and I usually kept the psi around 20-24lbs for street use. That car was a high stall auto, it would still burn hard when the converter hit the tires but they recover fast and still get you rolling better than POS radials.
Just check them very closely before you drive each day.

They don't like little rocks and debris, but they hook the best on the street compared to radials.
