I'm looking at getting a roll cage for my Trans Am. I've seen a few cages where the rear points bolted/welded in through the speaker covers and I've seen a few where the rear points attached to the floor pan more toward the center of the car. I'd rather not cut the plastic in the back (don't trust myself to cut it) so which kits come with the contact points in the center. Also what are the better fitting cages the car still sees some street use. Thanks

I went to MWC and had them install a 8 point with fixed door bars. The ones on the wheel tubs in my opinion don't have a good mount point the metal there is too thin. So I went with strength and safety which is also why I have fixed door bars. My wife at 9 months preggers could get in and out as well as my grandma and mother.

Wolfe sells a kit with over the seat rear bars. Be aware that you need to remove the fuel tank to weld the cage to the floor there. I pulled a tank out of a car for a fuel pump upgrade that actually had holes burned though it because they did not remove it. He was extremely lucky that it did not ignite.

I have the Wolfe weld-in 6-pt cage with the bars that mount to the deck lid.
On an LT1 car the fuel tank is steel so there is MUCH less risk to burning through, so I left the fuel tank in the car. It was a pretty easy straightforward install.
For streetability with just about ANY 5+pt bar you just have to deal with either swingouts or low-slung bars. Personally I think that's half the fun.

Be careful of some of the "low slung" door bars... To pass tech the side bars have to pass the driver between the shoulder and elbow and not have excessive bend. The bars that have excessive bends or go under the armrest are considered "pro street" and chances are will not pass tech/certify.
