Try a magnet. The magnetic attraction should be more on the MS than the CM if at all on it.

A spark test is probably the cheapest method to determine the material that was used. Sparks from chrome-moly will come off real fine and typically have three branches that look like little bursts. You could try it on a piece of mild steel first and take pictures for comparison purposes. The other method is an acid test that looks for traces of molybedenum in the material.

The tester that NHRA uses will tell you the thickness. CM will usually be .083 and MS should be .120

So if you can get acess to the tester it would be pretty easy to find out.

Just a guess

What size is the tubing?

Most MS Roll Bars are usually 1 3/4

Moly usually 1 5/8

Maybe Wolfe's website would give you some clues

Check for TIG vs MIG welds, If that doesn't satisfy, check for a seam in the tube. MOST (not all) MS rollbars and cages are CDEW tubing, not DOM like CM is.

This is the answer the OP needs. ALL mild steel cages MUST be 1 3/4 to pass tech otherwise its useless steel bars in the car. Moly cages can have slightly smaller dia. bars due to the extra strength of the chromoly. All you need is a set of mic's to figure out the size of the bars. FYI.

no just the thickness, not di. before 2008 model 11.49 to 9.99 Any rollbar (can be 5point) need a 1 3/4 main hoop and door bar. you can only go down to 1 5/8 those tubes if it was a 8.50+ spec that he doesn't have, and wolfe dosnt use on there 6point rollbars anyway, everything is 1 3/4
