Default Speedyws6 build thread

Everybody loves a build thread... I'm board so time to start my own I guess.

Here is what I am starting with. Basically a cam only stick car plus a little dope. It went 10.02 @ 137 about 4 years ago, and has been sitting since then with no rear end or transmission.

After four years the garage door broke and I was told the car had to be moved so that it could be fixed. So I called up Madman and ordered a fab nine housing making sure that the rear end would work with the Madman torque arm that the car already had.

We ended up with a Racecraft housing. Narrowed 3" per side if I remember right.

40 spline gun drilled axles

Stange Ultra Case

After a little paint we ended up with this.

I found some wheels and tires from a Tech member and this is what we ended up with.

While sitting around waiting on parts and trying to figure out what was going to power this thing I decided some weight needed to come out of the car.

I also removed the stock plastic fuel tank and the brackets under the floor that hold the tank. After so many years of running a 9" and trying to make the car sit low on 30" tall tires I had just about rubbed a hole in the stock tank. The new rear end was no different, so out came the tank.

A little previous history on the car... A 10 point cage and mini tubs were installed by Madman back when the car was running as a stick car. It came in at 3400 Lbs race weight with me in it (280 Lbs) while still running stock brakes front and rear and stock front suspension.

I placed an order with Racecraft to make some changes to the front end. Here is what will be coming.

Then I came up with a great idea for the power plant. So I think!!! It's been at least three years since I even opened hp-tuners so I'm sure to be a little rusty. I also what to go turbo and I have only dealt with turbos on diesels, so I'm not very confident in my ability to keep a motor together.

So with that said I got this.

The rear end was pretty expensive... I do not remember exactly how much though. Thanks for the compliments.

While you are in here I have a question. Have you ever had the rear shock bushings on the afcos turn to mush? Mine are like that weather strip goop.

Looks good man, I can't wait to cut out my rear floor, yours looks damn good. How much weight did you save after adding the metal back in for the floor?

The rear wheels are 11.25 wide with 4.5 bs if I remember right. I went back and edited the post about the rear end width. It's narrowed 3" per side.

I'm going to guess I cut about 30 lbs out of the back of the car. There was a pretty beefy battery tray that I had fabbed up to put the battery in the spare tire well that was also removed so it may have been closer to 40 lbs.

Got a bunch of parts in, but I have been too busy to bother bringing the car back to the shop. I may work on it this weekend but I still don't have my reacecraft spindles so it would be pretty pointless.

Anyway, everybody LOVES pics....

I went with a Huron Speed hot side and cold side. When I first ordered the kit I did not have a welder so I thought I was saving a little money buying a pre fabbed kit, and then a few weeks later I purchased a welder anyway.

I'm in the process of selling the F1A that I planned to put on my firehawk, the HS turbo kit will eventually make its way onto that car.

The cam is a Speed Inc TU1 that will also end up being reused when the firehawk gets turbo action.

I got a little excited opening boxes and sliced my knuckle open on a staple. LMAO I felt like a kid at Christmas.

Strange Brakes for the rear

Strange 3rd gen brakes for the front

The RC front end requires a motor plate so while I was on the phone with Madman I had him send me one.
