I see alot of people run the extended hood, im going to be running the 4150 tb so i have to cut and i was thinking of just leaving it that way, sure make it easier to work on and let the heat escape more

A lot of people have cut their hood due to their intakes not fitting or their turbo mount is too high. You can always get a tall cowl hood also.

Are you refering to cutting the stock hood to make room for the intake and just leave it open? If so, I have thought of this. My only concern in structural integrity of the hood.

Just cut it and see what it looks like with the stock hood.. if it looks stupid just get the extended hood.

I think he's referring to cutting the cowl and not running an extended hood. If you can leave a little bit of the cowl plastic on it would look better than just open. If you cut the whole cowl you will end up having a 6" gap between the hood and the glass which will look like ****.

lol I know what he's talking about the car he's working on is my old car I sold him lol.

I told him to get the extended hood to cover the gap. Thing is he's looking to buy a pin on hood that's not extended.

But I also agree with you leaving a little room to put it back on... But knowing him he will want to lose the weight.

I have the normal length sunoco pin on, and never had a issue. The cowl dose got back a bit more then the stock end of the hood. You have to be parked with the sun over the back of the car so it shines down the windsheild, the you have to look down over the roof to see the intake.

I only just the middle part of the firewall overhang, and did a nice job on it. Both side are symmetrical, and all corned are radiused. Bent a nice drip edge lip, sanded and re painted it so it looks factory. I know some leave it all saw cut random lines and angles, its not the easiest place to trim back, alot harder with the motor.trans and heads on the car still. I cut the middle to have max room, but stopped at lower push pin spots, so I can still put the plastic trim back over. Thats alot easy to cut and mod (epoxy, plastic patch pieces, and paint in black) for a nicer tighter fit for different intake setups. And just remove that fast with the push clips (I use 4) and super easy to work on the car then. Add you can get them cheap, I have like 4 of them..... free to $20.
Think about that too, then just cutting the whole this off, and not having the holes for it anymore.

this is what I did. I cut the entire thing off and put back on part of the plastic so it don't look to bad

^ looks good but having that all open like that would freak me out. I at least like knowing I have a hood over it to keep leaves/debris/whatever else floating around out.
