Stall Converter or different rear gears??
Hey guys...
I bought a bone stock 1996 Camaro Z28 A4 70,000mi. in October, and over the winter I have been saving money and upgrading the car a little bit here and there.
Over the winter, I have installed a Lingenfelter CAI, Pacesetter long tubes with y-pipe (no cat), hooker cat back, new plugs/wires, Madtuner tune, and went with Weld RT-S rims, drag radials 275/50/15, FP lower control arms and panhard bar.
With racing season coming up, it looks like I can swing one more mod.
I am looking to see what your experience has been with putting in a different converter, or swapping to 3.73 gears. (has 3.23 now)
What do you think will be a bigger performance gain???

the gear change would make it feel faster on the street but only show a tenth or 2 imrovement at the track , the convertor will make much bigger gains at the track provided you have tires to hook up the exta power you will be putting down earlier in the pass.
where you are lt1 I would get some stall speed suggestions from some guys with lt1 experience , if it was an ls1 the typical advice is dont go lower than 3400 stall 3600-4000 is what most go with but I cant stress this enough find out if the lt1 cars respond similarly , if their sweet spot is lower in the power curve than ls cars then you want to be sure to stall it into the lt's power window , I have never owned an LT powered car so I dont know for sure but since it shares its basic design with a typical sbc which I have had many of I would guess that 3,000 to 3200 would work pretty well.

Thanks guys.
I called Revmax today and am going to get a 3600 stage 3 with a couple upgrades.
I am going to keep the rear end gears time same for now, but I am going to save up for a 12 bolt, or something stronger for the future. I can change gears at that time.

Like murfinator said, A4's are a lot more forgiving on the 10 bolt.
Spend that cash on more mods.
