Default 26" tire vs 28" tire

Hey fellas, need some choosing a tire here. Was all set to buy some M/T 3055S 28" Stiffwall Drags for my 15 x 10 Weldstars for my next track outing. But after sifting through some of the threads here I'm starting to wonder if that's a little too much tire for being N/A and that I could make do with a 26" tire. The 3053S I would assume. Would the car be happier on 26 or 28?

Stock T56, MWC Fab 9 with 4.11s in the back shifting at roughly 6800 RPMs. I'm hearing the 28" might help my launch over the 26" but I really don't think I have that much power to overpower the 26" tire. I've read that Hoosier makes a 27" tire, but I really hadn't considered that tire just because I was sold on ET Drags. Recommend me a tire! Thanks.

im right around the same power as you just more torque and im in the same boat. ive been going back and forth between a 26 and 28" tire. a lot of guys say the 28 will hurt out of the hole but from a roll it would be better. i raced my buddy in his 01 ss with 4.11s on a nitrous tune making 400whp and had 28' tires vs me in my 440whp car with 4.10s and with a very large passenger and iron block while on a 26" tire and he was door to door with me til end of 4th. i currently have 28" et street radials on my darkstar wheels sitting in my house because i cant decided to put them on or not(i dont have my nitrous hooked up yet). ive been worried about it hurting my car in n\a form.

The only M6 guys I know that run a 28" tire have 4.30s or 4.56s. That being said, I would run 26" stiff wall if you are sold on M/T drags.

Or, you could swap to 4.30/4.56s and run a 28" tire
That would definitely make it easier to leave the hole since you are N/A

Imo with 4.10 go with a 26" tire to help it keep the rpms up through the traps or a 28" and to help it not bog off the line.

28 should have more traction, but you need to gear for them. 26 work too, you can go fast (9's 1.3s, wheelies) but some guys race in worse track prep so like 28. Use what gears works so your at a good rpm thu the trap, 6500, 6800,7000, ect.if you want to run fast. And thats better for the car too, then running a bigger tire and less gear (28s with 410s, under 500hp ect, NA so your only gona trap 120-130s. To get the clutch out and not bog and pull the motor way down under 4K. thats harderd on the clutch, the shafts and gears in the t56, Ujoints. lots of info on this

cliff notes
26s with 4.10s

---------------you need to work backwards for whats gears, I stole this chart I did off this thread

I looking at the gear/mph chart on http://www.f-body.org/gears/
My 28/10.5/15S ETdrags Do think I put them in has a 29.0 tire, I think thats close to what there going in my car. II know on my 28.0 DR that don't grow I can tell its more RPM. What dose it look like for your trap/rpm for you guys on that tire. 29.5 even 30.0? you do have to clearence about 1inch around

FYI
1st time out after the cam I bought a set of 28/10.5stiff cuz I read it was the tire to run on here. I had a S60 with 3:73 gears. went a 11.7@121 on stock z28 wheels put the race tires on, Car just bogged bad, and pulled 4th about 3-4 car lengths form the finsh??? ran 11.5 @ 120 or somthing?? ended up just leaving it in 3rd and tagging the limiter @7K a few times. and it went faster. Changed to more gear after, car drove alot better on the street (could use 5th and 6th around town) MPH better, 60' alot better, better ets with that.

id only run 28 with 4:56s, or 4;30s if your gona spray it a little.

dead hook, or bog?

did you ride out 4th, and see 120 is only like 5700. Or the car will go 135+ before 6500. the track is too short to get there.
