Default need to get heat out of the engine bay

I drove my car to the track Friday night, when I got there I took the hood off and the strut towers was so hot they would burn your hand if touched, engine temps were fine but i know it's not good with all the heat in the engine bay. I have the extended vfn sunoco. I'm wondering if I cut it back a good bit from the glass if it would let the heat out. Any suggestions?

Can you shim the back of the hood up a little without it looking like crap?

I doubt it, I've been looking and I'm guessing all I can do is cut it away from the windshield, I know on a full race car it wouldn't matter as much since they are for track only but I street drive mine so I need to get the heat out

Another way is to get some heat extractors in your hood somehow.

car looks great

hows the IAT, how do you have the engine getting air? doing that setup with a SV right now looking at ideas, for street driving. I see some guys trim the top of the cowl to the glass in a area cutout. some have run a lower air pan and seal it to the hood. some get air from the front of thecar and duct it back to the TB.

Thanks! I need to extend the harness on the iat and get it down near the bumper where it can get cool air, the car started acting funny after it got heat soaked. Right now the engine just gets hot air, I need to do the air pan so it can get fresh cool air.

Cutting the back of the hood and adding an air pan is more for getting cooler air to the T/b and less about reducing under hood temps. The opening in the hood would be sealed off, engine heat would not be able to escape out that way. I don't think adding an air pan will help with engine bay temps, if you cut the hood and didn't use an air pan that might help.

Here are a couple pictures I got from 3Fingas of the way his hood is cut.

Could cleanly cut out the slp grille. Provide some cooler air into the engine bay. Also trimming the hood would help I believe.

Have a look at this thread over on the Bullet. I think this would be your best bet.

ya, the air into the TB> engine. and air in/out of the engine bay are 2 different systems for sure. the tb is for performance 1st. just bay heat unless you melting things or some real problem remember to look at the areo of the car and how that affect the ET/MPH too with that trade off off air in the bay.

before cutting the grill or any holes look at the other way air gets in the bay. The wheel liners are huge on that. they let air in but it has to have a place to get out (if the hood cowl is open). and the under side area of the front end, and the ride height. The lower the better
