At your local 1/4 mile track...
What is the limits for speed with basically no equiptment? I have stock everything, i can get a jacket and own a helmit. I am wondering how fast i can go at what tracks before i get the Ole Ban Hammer!
I am in SE TN, so anywhere from Steel, AL to Bowling green, and as far as Virginia to Mephis TN. around about.
Not new to tracks just havent been fast enough to care, our local track you can go in the 6's (1/8) before they go, do you have equiptment?
Thoughts?

If you go To Bowling Green Dont worry about safety equipment with a cam only car. ive made many passes in the mid 11's with no helment, firesuit, cage or basicly anything. That is unless they have tightened up in the last couple of years

Depends on the track and/or workers that day, race day?, T&T?, runday sunday?, etc.
I've seen guys with nothing but a t-shirt and hat turned backwards
I personally wear a helmet and fire jacket because I value my safety and to "look" as though I'm trying.
NHRA says DS loop and helmet for sub-13.99 (8.59) and roll bar for sub-11.49 (7.35)
Lots of others too...lug nuts, valve stems, overflow, battery, etc, etc.
Do some reading/searching...but worker of the day usually dictates minimum, IME.

I've been 10's at a few tracks with just a helmet for safety equipment and no one cared. But then I've been to other tracks where everyone person down the track had to wear a helmet even if you ran a 20. Unless something has changed, Steel is a free for all and you can run whatever you want there.

I always wear a helmet. I started getting warnings when I hit the 11'3 mark for jacket and roll bar. They are pretty strict about DS loop because someone didn't have one and the DS broke, came through the floor and grabbed the drivers arm. He had to be cut out of the car. Now I have everything required for safety up to 9.9 ET.

My local track (New England Dragway) :
dot approved helmet for everyone , snell 2005 or newer helmet for anything quicker than 13.9 , ds loop and longer wheel studs for slicks but not for dr's , cant start in gear , battery must be secure , overflow bottle present , working seat belt , no shorts or holes in pants , closed shoes not sandals etc... no worn out tires including dr's must have tread above wear bars (tech with street tires then put dr's on after first pass if past wear bars lol). roll bar at 11.99 but they don't enforce it till 11.49. More rules for ragtops , and I am sure more as you go faster than top 11's - someday I may know about that but not yet lol

Thanks everyone for the input, i worked at our local track (1/8) for 9 years, and as stated it would depend on the day.
My car is Cam only w/supporting mods, but is already making 488/556 to the tire on a small shot, now with re-worked heads and the spray straighten out i hope to be high in the 5's on a small shot.
I have never taken it to a 1/4 since stock, stock it ran 13.01@107, two years agao at a toy race she went 7.63@95 i think, on motor (purge stuck first run... emptyed the bottle ), my sig pic, but still havent sprayed it yet at the track.
Last year on motor (backed down after NOS backfire.. long story) she out ran a f-430 in a 1/2 mile.
Since then, had the trans rebuilt, added a Mcleod clutch and flywheel, and having the motor and spray straightened out.
Bonus:

I haven't been in a few years either. It was never the nicest facility but it's always been a fast track with decent prep for events. But the lack of rules and safety was always a turnoff. Especially their "Midnight Madness" they used to do on the weekends. Racing jacked up trucks with people in the bed, sitting ON the track wall watching 8-second cars go by, donuts ON the track, etc!! Crazy experience

When are you going to BG? Assuming to a test and tune. Tuesday nights used to be real slow and you could get a lot of passes in. Ive been to T&T on Saturday on some nights and be lucky to get in 2 or 3.

My local track (etown) basically asks if I have a helmet and then off I go.
Last outing the guy calling up lanes saw my FMIC and said toss on the jacket, it was in the car just hadn't put it on yet.
Clicked off a 10.5@140 and not a word was said to me lol

been consistent 10.3 @ 135 at SGMP with a lap belt and helmet and no one has cared
at gainesville i ran an eighth pass and let out, 6.60 @ 106 eighth, coasted to an 11.0 @ 100, told not to run anymore
