NA 9.92....Just a wee bit faster!
Well, I set out to hit a 9.89 last night but I'll take any time that's faster than my best time. I made a total of five 9 second 1/4 mile passes last night. They were, in order...
9.92
9.99
9.94
9.96
9.98
The weather was cold and the barometer was high. So, I had my hopes up for 9.8s. Woulda had them if not for major traction problems (a dew settled track, it being TNT night, and worn out slicks.)
The first pass of 9.92 was the best pass of the night. The transbrake worked but I spun (this was the last time it worked last night but with the traction problems I was having it wouldn't have mattered.) Managed a 1.41 60 ft time (after this pass the best I could muster was 1.44) but the trap speed of 134.93 was off compared to last time despite better weather.
Why was the trap speed low? Well, my Autotap was acting screwy (time for a new computer) as usual so I wasn't sure but after a few more passes I theorized that my latest fuel system mod worked! I had a Boost-a-Pump installed earlier that day and had it set on about %20. After the first pass I actually thought that it might be lean (really just guessing) so I cranked the MAFT up %4 on the WOT. The trap speed went down. Just for the heck of it on the next pass I cranked the BAP up to about %35. Oops!....the trap speed went down even more! Ok, back the MAFT back down %4. Trap speed comes up. Back it down another %4. Hey! Look at that 1/8 mile trap speed...109.24 MPH! Now we're getting there! A new best! I noticed that because of the BAP I was maintaining about 50 PSI at WOT rather than the 40 PSI I've been used to seeing. This had the mixture running really rich since I had the MAFT's WOT tuned to 40 psi.
Still, the 1/4 mile trap was only 135.29 for some reason. It felt like I was turning more RPMs across the line but I was actually going slightly slower. There are a couple of things I can figure to explain a better 1/8th trap (previous best was 108.89) but a slower 1/4 trap (best is 135.76)....
Gearing...my 29" slicks have worn ALOT since my 9.95 night. It felt like she was running out of breath before crossing the line. Even TUMS told me after the first pass that it sounded to him like I was turning more RPMS across the finish line.
Dew on the track. The rear of the car was really wiggly from about half track to the finish line.
So, next time I'll have a new set of slicks and hopefully a working T-brake and a dry track. 9.8s here I come!

thats really cool it takes a really good set up and driver to make 5 passes in a row like that, i am sure you will continue to to go faster., and the new slicks should give you the extra time you want.

That's awesome Colonel.
Gee, only a 135.29 trap speed huh? LOL That is still crazy fast. That 9.8 should be yours the next time out. Again, congrats on the new time.

Congrats muchacho!
Perhaps the car doesn't sound like it's pulling as it goes thru the traps? You have 4.10's +29" tires so that's not too bad.

What's the car weighing now Steve????
You gonna go to any races this year or just do the test and tune time trial boogie?????
Enjoy... A good weather day in Houston and you'll be playing catchup again.
