Default Too Much Tire?

Im trying to decide what tire I want for the track now. Ive been having problems hooking with my 27x10.5x15 ET streets. I should have gone with a 27x11.5x15.Tomorrow Im going to the track and trying a buddies 28x11.5x15 Hoosier QTPs. Do you think this is too much tire for the combo in my sig?? My rev-lok clutch does hit hard. Give me some opinions and Ill let you know what happens tomorrow.

you should ahve plenty of power, now you need the gearing. 4.30 gearing minimum to turn a 28" tire that hooks hard.

I had 4.30s and loved them, unfortunately I broke all the ring gear bolts on my spacer. I have a series III moser and cant find a thick ring gear. If I didnt have to use a spacer I would go back to 4.30 or even 4.56!!

if the track is hooking hard, even launching off the limiter prolly won't get you out ofthe hole without bogging with that small of a gear on a 28" tire.

Ill call them and see about the availability of the thick ring gear. Moser said it wasnt available. Maybe they meant it wasnt available from moser? I dont want to launch that high. 5k is about all I want to go since this car is a true daily driver that is at the track once or twice a week. Thanks for the input. Ill find out tonight!!

if you dont want to launch hard, then why go with a big tire? lol. it isnt the rpm that hurts you, it is the shock to the driveline when you hook and that tq has to go up the driveline.

also if you cant hook with a 27" tire at your power level, then the suspension needs adjustment and the track probably sucks. i bet you are running at moroso? if so, that place is a joke.

John they do make a 27" et street, they don't make a 27" et Drag.

they make quite a few more sizes in et streets than drags, found this out before when doing some investigating

Hehe.. that's my question. As far as I know.. MT doesn't make that animal

For a H/C M6 car with 4.10's, I'd run atleast 26x11.5 ET Streets or better, 26x10 ET Drags.

They have a 27x10.5x15 ET street. I know, Ive been running it for six months. Gator , I dont want to launch at 6k Cause it just destroys ****. I think my car does pretty well the way it is. BTW, I race mostly at Moroso but also at bradenton and orlando. You say moroso sucks? Based on what? Im there at least once a week and have never seen your car? Dont make assumptions based on hearsay. Bradenton is more consistent, but they have come a long way at moroso in the last two years.I still have stock shocks and springs up front so I definately have room for improvement. Experimintation at the track is how we find out what works.BTW, I found out richmond does make a 4.56 in the thick ring gear!

Well. I found out my problems go beyond the tires. I was spinning the 28s. Best 60' was 1.71.I really need to tweak my suspention and get some Hals or strange up front!!It never ends!
