New Best @ Carlsbad Raceway
Well I'm still not faster than all the stock motor cars, but I am closing the gap.
I headed down to San Diego this morning, temps were in the mid 70s for most of the day, and it was nice to get a chance to turn my air conditioning on, as LA and surrounding areas have been really cold the past few weeks.
No real changes to the car since last time except new Hoosier slicks. I'm about 60# lighter than a stock full auto Z28, 3.23 gearing, ST3800, MMS heads/cam, etc.
I ran a string of 11.7/11.6 runs today with my new best being 11.64@116 1.71 60' time. I was trying to at least get in the 11.50s today, but the car and track were not cooperating.
Before I head out next time I'm planning on installing 4.10s, an Eibach drag launch spring kit, lockup switch, short belt, PA kmember and aarms, and a light weight battery. I'll also be tweaking the shift points and bringing some VHT with me to the track. I'm hoping the above will net me around .3ths. I'll be reinstalling my reverse flow electric water pump with my revised thermostat soon as well.

Nice job Terry.. You should see 3 tenths with the other mods you listed. Congrats!
What size Hoosier slicks are you using?

Thanks, I'm running the 26x10x15". So far they seem to hook about the same as ET Drags but are much more stable at the top end. They smoke a lot easier too I noticed.

Do you think they grow about the same on the top end compared to a 26x10x15 ET Drag? I'm always up for trying something new.

Congrats!
I'm surprised you ran good. It'd been raining on and off all week where I'm at, so I thought the track might still be wet.
1.7's ain't too bad for Carlsbad. What's the best 60' you've done there?

Jason they are a bit taller than 26" actually, closer to 26.5". Enough taller that they threw my shift points off and I hit my limiter a couple of times.
Pat, my best 60' in the 2001 is 1.67, which I also cut today. I had shifting problems and it was an 11.7 run. I've cut 1.54 in my '98, and 1.51 in my '93 down there before. Carlsbad is all about full slicks.

Re: New Best @ Carlsbad Raceway
Is Carlsbad still as crappy as it was in 95?
The only thing good about that track is.....It's down hill That and its at sea level or below.

The track is only 50' above sea level which is really nice, but its so close to the ocean that frequently the air is damp. Thats part of why the track never hooks well.
I'd like to try out Fontana but I race my car with non-dot tires and exhaust cutouts, which are not allowed there.

Hey Terry, you still haven't beat my measly 11.61 @ 119 pass, and I only had a 1.72 60' time. You gonna let an M6 beat you mod for mod? Oh yeah, I still had the LS1 intake on the car and MAC headers too. Guess you are MORE modded than I was

You might be right, I was only at 390 rwhp when I ran 11.61 with the prehistoric combo. Maybe I just outshifted your A4 stab-n-steer? LOL!
All kidding aside, you are gonna need some low 1.5X 60' times to hang with the quicker A4 heads/cam cars out there. Gearing might get you another 2 mph, but you should be shooting for 120+ minimum.
I'm sure you will figure it out.

Tony:
Terry was being cool. You're supposed to just say congrats, and drop it.
You've never run Carlsbad, so you have no idea what is going on. A 1.7 60' with less than 12" wide slicks is pretty good. Not a record, but pretty good. There is actually grass growing in the lanes. You can hook better on a city street.
Let's put it this way. On a normal day there, I can heat 10.5" ET Streets in a stock engine car and spin them thru first gear from 3000 rpm. It's the slimeiest track I've ever run at. Granted I've only run on 7 different strips, but it's pretty bad. Guys from Texas come to visit and cuss up a storm.
Is it that hard to congratulate someone?

Re: New Best @ Carlsbad Raceway
Terry,
Congrats man! Dont do anything else to the car as I want to run you when I get my trans fixed At least give me some kinda of a shot
A lot of people have no idea how slick that track is. I remember telling people that I pulled a 1.9 on e.t streets at that track and people thought I was smoking crack Like Mc Rat said, that "grass mod" at the track can't be helping us
anyhow..congrats!

I'll get that MPH up one way or another. A local guy Derek Real ran 11.25@121 (or there about) with a 1.7 60' time (98z, heads/cam, a4, 4.10s), so there is some hope for me at this track.
