Metal under headliner

I hear a lot about there being a lot of dead weight under the headliner but I can't find any info on what's actually under there and how people are removing it? Anybody done this? Is it structural? Are there even really anything under it I've never seen a 4th gen with no headliner before. Thanks

You can do some holesawing, but not worth it in my book.

What if I cut that entire inner shell out with a cutoff wheel. I wouldn't think that would be anything structural would it? I don't want this thing to twist anymore than it all ready does lol.

Do you have a cage in the car? the cage go's a long way to keeping the car from twisting up. I wouldn't cut anything out of the roof support until you stiffen the car up first. go get a spot weld cutter and start removing brackets you don't need anymore. like the metal under the rear seat arm rest and rear seat belt brackets.

All of the back seat bracketry is gone. I haven't touched the inner shell where the sail panel speaker sits tho I thought about hole sawing that. I don't have a cage yet but its next on the list. It went 10.92 last year with the sbe and im sure the 408 will pick up so I needed it last year really.
