Ordering 12bolt today - which gear?
Thanks
Jay
Ok, for the track I'll assume a trap speed of about 130 MPH with a 222 cam, bolt-ons, and a 150 shot. Let's also assume 28" slicks since, to really do this right, you're going to need alot of tire.
That puts you at about 5850 with 3.73s or 6400 with 4.10s.
I'd take the 4.10s.
Again, if it were me, I'd go with 28s and 4.10s.
Oh yeah, if you really must go with a Hoosier 26" slick (they don't make a 27" slick), go with the 3.73s.
Again, if it were me, I'd go with 28s and 4.10s.

Colonel, I could be WAY off with this, but would the 26" "swell" up to around 27" by the end of the run. I have no idea if I'm right or wrong, but it would make since, at least to me...
I assume this is an M6?

I'm at the same point but only with a 100 HP. Colonel do you think a person will be able to shift fast enough with a set of 4.10's?
With nitrous?
I was set on getting 3.73's this afternoon but with what you just said about trap speeds and what PSJ said today about my shift point
What PSJ said about my shift points
And my new cam I'm now wondering if 4.10's are right for me. They would help with running N/A.

They will swell. By exactly how much I do not know. An inch sounds too high based on the comparing of actual trap rpm v/s calculated rpms that I've done. This swelling would vary somewhat with trap speed, tire pressure, rim width, and race weight.
However, when calculating RPMS across the line you must also take into consideration the fact that your actual speed across the line and what the timeslip indicates is different. Your actual speed is higher because the trap speed is the average speed of your last 60 ft.
I've found that usually, this tire swelling and trap v/s actual speed difference tend to cancel one another out for the most part.
With nitrous?"
With 28" tires you're only looking at around 6300 even if you pull 128 MPH trap speeds. What kind of trap speeds do you expect (this would vary alot with raceweight and the amount of N2O that you spray among other things of course.)
They'll most definitely be better NA and will probably be better on the juice as well (you'd only turn around 5750 at 128 with 3.73s.)
Now, if going really big on the juice (much higher trap speeds and a lower RPM range) then 3.73s will better. 135 MPH with 4.10s on the bottle would not be good (6500+ rpm.)
