Ah yes, Peter Nikea's car! He just sort of disappeared on us when his lease was up on his 98Z. His car ran very well for just free mods, he had a ported MAF (his MAF was done during my MAFAPALOOZA session), EGR mod, an MTI lid, 3.23 gears, drag radials, and he removed his catback at the track. That's about it.

Fast forward to 1999 and I remember Eric (NoOne) was the first 6-speed to run 11.9X with heads/cam and did it on ET Streets (or slicks?). Then, a few months later was one of my biggest all-time doubters and said it was impossible for me to be doing the same thing on Nitto Drag radials. Oh the nitrous accusations that flied. Too funny! I even remember him consoling with some "experts" at his work that said he was right. LOL!
Man, and then we now have Bob Cosby running 11s on motor and radials - in a stock motor 4.6L Cobra. My how standards have changed LOL!
Tony
2nd 6-speed 346ci LS1 to run 11s on motor, first to do it on radials and run 11s consistently

I remember those days well, and was one of the first six speed cars to run sub 13's. My best back then was a 12.89 @ 109 (Oct 98) and had a whole slew of 12.9'+ to back it up. I think I had one of the fastest running stock cars back then and clearly remember consoling nineball to wait for cooler temps down in Houston to pick up the pace. When the weather cooled he got faster .
Many times Peter Nikeas and I went to the track together with a group of guys and the track officals kept looking for our bottles. In those day we surprised many cars that were simply incredulous that we could run such fast times in basically stock full bodied cars.
Ahhhhhhhhhh the good old days

Tony,
You know I was right
Its there somewhere dammit...I'll find it...just give me some more time
Thats all in the past, I took my shots, and scored with alot of them, if anything I've gotten a little rusty in the past year.
Seeing where the new NFRA race is this year I'll bring the car and we'll finally get our chance to run heads up if you decide to bring the car that far.

Hey Warbird (Paul), I do remember the email you sent me and the phone call I got from you when you were with Scott Winger. That was when I was running 13.DOHs and you said to just wait on the weather to arrive. Yep, you were right!
Eric, it was hillarious watching you guys cast all that doubt about the cars down here. You know what its like to argue about something when you already know you are correct? Yep, that was how we felt!
Well, hopefully I get my motor sold so I can make the 'Bird even faster for the next NFRA or whatever event.

people doubting that these cars will run anything better than 14.0 stock is still going on. It's real bad around here, only a handful of ls1's are running better than 13.8 or so, the ones that are get accused of everything from spraying to having motor work. its annoying and amusing at the same time, when we get in somebodys car and run 5 tenths quicker then they do just because we've been around them longer and know how to get the best et out of a car.

I just thought of my best drag racing moment.
I went to Milan Dragway in April of 98, opening day. First LS1 to run at the track, no one had seen one yet.
The look of absolute horror on the LT1's guys faces when it went 13.20's stock, they about cried.

Man, reading through these posts make me feel old! Then I think of Joe K. and feel young again. I first registered as Trevor98WS7 in August of '98 and finally changed to Trevor98ramair in October or so after the WS6 guys threw a FIT because my car was a ripoff. It wasn't a ramair if it wasn't from the factory! LOL! Since there weren't any mods to perform beyond spark plugs, a catback, a few free mods, and a lid, we had to argue about something. I remember saying that I'd NEVER put an aftermarket torque converter in my '98 T/A because I was going to do an exhaust and induction and leave the rest alone. Well, thanks to Patrick, Larry, and Jason 98 TA, I ended up with a Vig 2800 11 mos. after I bought the car, and I thought it was CRAZY! I remember my first 1.81 60' on ET Streets; all of the LS1 guys out at the local track dropped their jaws when they saw an A4 click off a 13.4 at 2,800' actual altitude. HAHA!
I remember reading the track adventures of Patrick and Larry and how FAST they were running! I was SO jealous that they were in the 12's! I pictured HRP as a huge, exotic track. That's when I thought TX Motorplex was an AWESOME track! That's how bad our local tracks were. I remember meeting a lot of the Houston and Louisiana guys for the first time in November of '99: Patrick, Larry, Tony, Brooke, Tim C., Gordon, and the rest of the crew. Tony surprised us all with the latest MTI heads/cam package, and I thought his T1 was a HUGE cam! HAHAHA! Damn, those days sure were fun. Anyone remember my CNC heads/Crane cam setup that was putting 331/360 to the wheels? BWAAAHAHAHA! (208/216, .500"/.500", 114 LSA) I was afraid of going with a big cam because I thought it would be too unstreetable. I nearly put Patrick's 209/216 cam in my 383! I ended up with the 221/221, .558"/.558", 116 LSA, and I was expecting it to really cam. It ended up sounding like a bone-stock LS1.
I could go on and on. I remember the good 'ol days right after I bought my T/A and people oooohed and aaaahed over it because they had yet to see the new front end. Joe K. t-stats, the trick titanium turd, the Houston vs. NoOne and Louisiana threads, Jason 98 TA's stage I heads/cam setup being the highest dynoing setup with 398 RWHP until Tony got the new, improved setup, etc. The LS1 f-body is already on its fifth year, and on its way out, and 11's with an A4 and stock-internal LS1 is the norm! NoOne's 11.9x heads/cam setup was outrageous for the longest.

Though I don't remember that exact thread, that was the day I registered over there (November 6, 98) Things were slow back then, so it is very likely that I read it.

No, it's just that in 98 things were just getting starting for us on the LS1 scene, and it's nice to see how far we've come. A lot of us have been racing since long before then, it's just that we didn't all come together in the LS1 world until 98.
