What I'm really wondering is "how much does it cost" to get an f-body into the 8's? All opinions and feedback are welcome. I'm hoping some of the sponsors will chime in here as well. Also, if you had the funds, what kind of setup would you go with to try to get into the 8's? I figured the Drag Racing section would be the best place to post this. Thanks in advance guys,

Chris

I think you'll be hard pressed to get anyone to admit how much they spent to run 8's. I don't really see Ron Duke, Madman, or the Colonel (who's hoping to do it NA) coming on here and saying "the engine cost $25k, the chassis work cost $25k, etc...".

And then there's the old axiom... If you have to ask...

yup you cant ask how much it cost. some do it themselves and save a lot of costs. some have complete shops take over a car and test and tune and recieve turn key, an 8 second car. also too many factors like HOW you ran 8s. whether it be all motor, blower, turbo, nitrous, full weight, gutted, etc.

i would say a safe bet is somewhere between 25K to 100K dollars.

Plenty of scrilla and big hairy *****.

It's also a lot easier if you are closely affiliated w/ a performance shop (where's the fun in that??) or can do a majority of the work yourself.

Write me a check (that clears) for 60k and ill give you a f-body that will run deep into the 8's

It aint cheap, but i would have to say alot depends on what motor and power adder you put in it and how safe you want to be going 8's.

Well you mentioned in your post "what does it take to get an Fbody in the 8's". Did you mean to say an "LS1" because that would be a different study.

Getting any Fbody 1st-4th gen in the 8's isn't rocket science, but getting an LS1 is. I you can count on 1 hand the people that have ran 8's with a LS1 based Fbody.

I would say once the chassis and suspension is setup, I would think that you could build a LS1 based motor to get into the 8's for right around $20,000?

Send TPR a check for 45K and we'll send you a hardcore 8 second car that you can drive on the street if you want.

LOL........thanks guys! I'm not looking to build an 8 second car anytime in the near future. I would like to know how some of YOU guys would go about doing it? Turbo, blower, spray, etc.... if you had the funds( just for ***** and giggles guys ). Also, could it be done WITHOUT a C5R block or C5R heads? I know FEAR THE LS1 wants to get his car into the 9's NA and thats a 346!

Shitloads of money. If I had it to do over I would have had a pro like Pat Musi build me a turbo sbc.It would be much quicker and I would have had my car done a year ago.

I have to agree with the above metioned statement. Im currently building a 423 big nitrous motor and installing it in a 95 TA it should weight in around 2900-3000 once Im done and its got all the suspension tricks and bells and whistles. Its not cheap at all I have serious cash in just my block and rotating ***. I wish now I went with the trad sbc and a thumper

8.80's are a reasonable goal at this point.I'll have the power to get it done it just a matter of the Spohn suspension doing it's job and the driver having enough ***** to make a full pass.

You want f-bod 8's? Yank the LS1, put in a Reher-Morrison or Shafiroff mountain motor, add nitrous and susp., enjoy. Oh yeah, cut the hell out of the engine bay, too.
