Hoosiers are the **** but they are not for DDing or long distance at all. Get stuck in the rain once and you're screwed. I used to pull 1.5's out of my 17's, track or street. They dead hook and can be aired down lower than the Mikey's because they are glass belted. That is also why they are lighter.

Some things I noticed from that DOT drag tire test (other than it was from like 1998!):

I think the reason that the Hoosier did the best was not just from traction, but the fact it was a 27" tire, which helped the gearing. 28's are too much for a 12.30's M/T car.

Also, on most of the bias plies, the PSI appeared to be too low, causing the car to literally bottom out on the rim, then unload. I would have liked to see a couple more PSI to see if it helped.

I thought the same as you about the test in some aspects. But the fact that they did it on the same day same track added a lot of validity to it. 1" in tire height would not be huge either way.....especially when you consider the bias will grow a bit.

REALLY wanting hoosier 255/50R16 - can i safely drive these 30 miles to & from the strip (60 mile round trip) IF forecast is 99.9% no rain? (live in cali sacramento area so if no rain is in forecast it pretty much aint rainin lol) - after last night at the strip uhmmmmmm lets just say street tires are an absolute waste even with a stock a4 if you want to launch at anything above 500 !!!

For drag racing an auto car yes, street driving no, because of the tread pattern or lack of. I only drive mine on the street to the track so I don't have to change them out at the track.

I drive my MT ET Streets to the track. I never take them off the car. Now the car isn't my DD, but I still drive it to work sometimes, the track and back, car shows etc. It's so fun.

I run 295/55/15 and they dead hook 1.60 60' so far.

ok so i'm definitely leaning towards them, but my drive to the track would be 30 miles each way on highway (i could cruise control at 65) ... is that speed acceptable? again, i will ONLY be using these for driving from my home to the strip & back home.

I don't know about highway driving. My trip to the track I hit a max of 55 for about ten minutes the rest is up and down 35-50.

I drove mine probably 40-50 miles one way to the track, all highway. I live in IL and the track I go to is in WI. 70-80 mph the whole way, aired them down, cut 1.5 60's, aired then back up and ran 75-80 home. Hoosiers FTW.

I drive 90 minutes one way to the track on Hoosier QTPs and skinnies multiple times (10+). It was fine. Dry weather driving is fine. Can't speak with radials on the front, I'd never put myself at risk like that. A drag radial on the other hand, who gives a ****. I've driven those on wet roads even and in slight rain, no problems.

2 words: spotted showers. You could be driving home and enter an area where it has rained, or is raining, and you won't have enough time to slow before you hydroplane and lose control. It's really not worth it. Do people do it? Sure. But it's so much smarter to mount them to dedicated drag wheels and mount them at the track.

they WILL be mounted to dedicated drag wheels. im in california central valley ... if weather forecasts no rain believe me there is no rain coming lol. if rain is even suspected, sure ill bring the jack to the track & switch out there ... otherwise driving speed limit & granny-ish to & from.

That sucks man. Yeah car looked nothing like that when I got it. It had a firehawk hood that I have since sold. I need to get my WS6 hood painted but it's going to need some fiberglass work first. That's the only reason it's still black.
