Yea I think mine came to 3700 after all the add ons. And 28" tires and 456 would be the best for a race car with a ls1. The steep gear will keep wheel speed down and help with bogging and the 28" gives you more sidewall. I had 430s and 27" and cut bottom 1.5x. Best of 1.51. For the track a bias ply tire works a lot better. I always left at 6500. Much lower and I bogged. Went 10.92 heads cam car.

First of all, I agree with holding out for a 9". There is nothing more satisfying than knowing that nothing you can really do is going to break the rear end. But with that being said....
You have to find out if you even really need the extra gear. Because in my opinion, you put more gear in a car if you need the extra torque at the launch. Sure a 4.56 will "stay in the power band" better than lets say a 3.90 would, but that part is REALLY minimal. I will give you an example, back in the day I was running my car as an N/A 370ci, th400 w/transbrake, 3200 stall, Moser 9", and 275/60 MT DR. The car only made 380whp at the time, and let's just say my drivetrain and tire setup, WAY outdid my horsepower level. At the time I had a 3.50 gear in the rear end, and on a full transbrake launch the car would dead hook EVERY SINGLE TIME, yet the best it could pull was a 1.82 sixty and 7.80s in the 1/8th. My car was power limited. I had all of the traction I could ever hope for, but just not enough power. So.... I compensated for that lack of power by adding a whole lot of gear. I switched from 3.50 to 4.57 in the rear, and it instantly dropped to a 1.61 sixty and 7.40s in the 1/8th. Nothing else changing.
But in most peoples cases, I ask them if they can spin the tires off the line at the track with their current gear ratio. Most people answer yes. Well in that case, the extra torque does you no good. You see in my case, I was fine to add more 1st gear torque.
Something to think about. Only add more gear if your setup truly needs it.

I've been told that a bump in compression with a bigger cam helps that. I should probably wait and see how it drives after I do heads before I worry about a different gear.

I believe I have around $3200 in mine I cant remember the exact number but I picked mine up from lsfest last year so I didn't have to worry about shipping. But the mwc 9" or a s60 is the best options for a m6 car. I liked the 4.30s on my stock ls1 before I took it apart. I ran the mickey Thompson pro radial the only time I had it out with the ls1. It improved my time a ton.

I run my 28x12.5x15 ET Streets full time so the 4.56 is awesome for me, approx 1650rpm@60mph and taking off in 1st gear takes little to no throttle. I wouldn't go any lower unless I did a stroker or boost.

4.56 with a 28 inch tire for a stick car work very well, but **** an the radial and put a stiff sidewall slick on it, you need to be able to slip the tire a revolution it 2 nd go, won't do that with a radial tire, and dead hooking a stick car without a slipper type clutch the engine will fall on its face and run for ****.
