Stock LS1 need advice.
I've read so many different post about head and cam packages. I'm looking for the best bang for the affordable buck. I looking into getting a set of 243 heads and getting a cam somewhere in the 575-600ish cam. What can ya'll tell me?

Auto or M6? Cam LSA will depend on trans. Also stall speed on converter if it is an auto. I have a few customers that i put comp 228r cams in with 243 heads and made awesome power. There are better cams out there. Just depends on your needs. For all out drag racing, pic your cam, measure piston to valve clearance, and have those 243's milled to .080" piston to valve clearance on the intake valve. You need .100" on the exhaust valve, but typically you will have more than that. The intake valve is much larger and at a 15 degree angle it will hit the piston sooner.

Yep, need to know budget, goals, trans, etc. For stock ported castings I like TEA, AI, WCCH to name a few. For aftermarket I like AFR and TFS if budget allows. For cams there are a million choices. I agree on milling to get your ptv tight to maximize the combo.

It's an A4. I do race the car at the track. I want to get some where close to 450rwhp.
Budget is decent. Would like to save as much as possible. I was looking at the 228R cam and 243 cast heads. Don't know any thing technical about what to do. Only had car about 2 months.

I would not fall into the trap of chasing dyno numbers. If you are serious about going fast at the track start with tires then converter and gears and then exhaust. You need tires first no matter what power you are making and the converter is the single best improvement you can make.My wifes car is solid in the 11's and the motor has never been touched. My car also was in the 11's before I touched the motor. The formula for these cars is pretty simple, 4000 converter,3:73 gears and 26"tire.

Converter will take a nice chunk out of your 60' times. A 3200 stall speed would compliment a 228 cam well. We can go higher for more performance if you want though. Let us know if we can help.

You're better off selling your LS1 and picking up a decent LQ4. Selling the 317's, buy an LS3 top end and have Tick spec you a cam. You'll hit 450rwhp with out even trying. Unless you have a low mileage LS1 I personally wouldn't mess around with a motor smaller than a 6.0 but that's just me.
