Default What do you think??? An event in Texas???

Folks,

I'm seeing events put on in Illinois and Alabama, but not Texas. Considering the fact that ALOT of the faster cars are from this state, it would only seem logical. Not to bitch or moan, but to add to the possibilty of having something here in Texas, what do you think about this???

A forth generation F-body event at my local track in Edinburg, Texas. Its an IHRA sanctioned 1/4 track that has recently added a concrete launch pad, paved pits, etc. We have had excellent traction there. We are also on the Mexican border and an hour away from South Padre Island. It makes for a pretty cool trip.

I'm interested in organizing this and shooting for a late summer or early fall date. Let me hear your thoughts on this.

I'll be the first to chime in. Other than the distance, I think it sounds great. Like you said the close by South Padre is appealing. It would definitely require some notice for those of us without trailers. I wouldn't consider driving that distance without some form of back up plan. It is definitely doable. Is this looking to be a bracket racing event/car show?

At this point, I'm thinking only about the race program. But, anything is possible. I just want to get some idea about the interest level. I think a carshow would be great. I know that I would love to have an event at HRP or River City, but I also know its rather expensive. I'm not looking for frills of the big track. Just a place for the Big Dogs of Texas to duke it out.

I would pay extra to have it at HRP.

C'mon... the track freaking ROCKS.

Early october would be killer.

just my 2 cents.

You would get a better turnout if the event were held at HRP. It is more centrally located and the greater Houston area has tons of F-body enthusiasts.

I have to agree that HRP is a great track. And, if someone where to host an event there we would make the trip. Unfortunately, it hasn't happened. You'd think with all the speed shops there that they could cook something up. But, that hasn't been the case.

I'm trying to do something on a smaller level that would allow Texas racers(and anyone else) to bash some heads. It can be done. I know folks run out to HRP and Hallsville every once in awhile for some good old fashioned grudge racing. However, I'm not talking about a "get together". I'm talking an event with classes and such. Even a car show if there is enough interest.

HRP is pricey, a one-day rental is doable, maybe an NFRA / LS1Tech event.

Padre Island, that's like waay far South right? How far from Houston?

An event at HRP would be badass, just a one day Saturday or Sunday would be fine. I think I'll call them and ask how much it costs.

South Padre is about 5 1/2 hours south of Houston. How doable is an NFRA event in Houston? Who can we contact? Its seems like there is alot of sponsors listed to the right of the screen. Can anyone commit some sponsorship. It can be done!!! I would definately like to help set something up. OK, I can see that and understand why most folks won't want to come this far south. Its a really long drive. I guess you can understand why its tough for us to travel to Alabama or Illinois.

Onxys, you can call, but I also talked to Judson about this too. Judson has some contacts there. So I might end up calling as well or asking Judson to call on our behalf.

I'll drive to a track that will hook.

I promise that NFRA Cordova will hook like mad. I know how to prep a track people cut 1.3's last year at NFRA BG.

Actually, I thought the fastest time for an NHRA car was recorded at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL ?
I assume HRP is much like Route 66. Big place.
NHRA, very strict on regulations?

Everyone seems to hook there tho.

I vote for HRP as well. Let's face it: HRP is the best track in Texas, and there are quite a few that have yet to race at it. You have guys as far away as California that were willing to drive to TX for the NFRA race if it were to be held at HRP! The track and facilities rock, and many people would drive the distance when they KNOW they're gonna be at a well-known track.
